Danny Daze & Anthony Rother - Binary EP [S108-005]

Newly launched Dutch electro label LDI Records follows up their first release from T/Error with a deep and dark four track EP by French producer Franck Kartell. 

In a homage to masterful science fiction writer Philip K Dick - Side A of Electric Sheep EP evokes scenes from future mechanised worlds. Electric Sheep kicks the 12” off with a melancholic and contemplative moment followed by a steel cold and brooding venture in Voigt-Kampff.

On the B side of this release, there is a live mix of Kartell's track Electro Music, a futuristic electro work out with kicks for the dancefloor. The EP completes with Victoria - an ode to the electronic musician Victoria Lukas who passed away in 2020 - with a beautifully poised and contemplative track steeped in synths.

Franck Kartell is a French producer who has releases on Between Places, Transient Force, Ukonx Recordings, New Flesh, Bass Agenda and others. Since 2005 he has been producing well thought-out electro music filled with dark atmospheres and driving rhythms.

Specialising in moody, atmospheric electro, LDI Records (Lloyd’s Dark Imperium) are an essential label to watch. Distributed worldwide by Clone Distribution, while the Dutch label’s main focus is on vinyl releases, available in selected record shops across the globe, releases will also be available digitally.

For its sixth release, the Madrid-based label N2MU presents an eight-track Various Artists compilation featuring Ivna Ji, Teslasonic, and Larionov among others. A gathering of renowned artists able to convey a homogeneous music message without losing sight of their creative individual characters.

As in the latest N2MU release, Xergio Córdoba (Eternal Midnight Mastering Studio) has been in charge of mastering duties, while the Galician visual artist, Plástica, has created the artwork for the project.

GAB MIX 049 sees Reykjavík-born and Berlin-based Jadzia step up to the controls with a deep dive through her expansive collection of electro! We first came across Jadzia’s music through her outrageous releases on RAIDERS’ “Queens Of Club: Night Shift” compilation and International Chromies Vol. 4! More recently, Jadzia has released music on Nasty Enterprises, Michigan-based none/such and Buenos Aires-based Dancefloor Impact Research. 

As well as this Jadzia has ran the incredible Sweaty Records since it’s inception in 2016. The label’s most recent record saw Volruptus and Jensen Interceptor collide to provide some of the stankiest electro we’ve heard in a while! 

It’s no surprise therefore that Jadzia’s GAB guest mix offers up 70 mins of GRITTY electro. Although Jadzia incorporates breaks and techno outings at points, her mix is firmly rooted in the unadulterated power of electro as well as its cosmic, intergalactic and amphibian tendencies.

Viikatory

Rounding up our anniversary week and curating episode 170 of the series is Belarus native Viikatory. She has gone through a meteoric rise over the last few years with her fresh electro sound, making appearances at parties like Boiler Room, 1-2-3-4 (Minsk), Mechta and recording mixes for powerhouses like Bubblebath, Lepton and Hypnotic Groove. 

But what really stood out to us are her exquisite production skills, racking up release after release with extreme precision while maintaining her versatility. 
Her discography already contains issues at labels like No Service, Your Character, her recent "Crasher Babe" on LAP Records and not to forget her appearances on Assembler Code & Jensen Interceptor's mighty International Chrome( with Maiden Voyage's "Something For D" showing a gentle side to her sound as well ). 

All and all we are absolutely hooked on her sound and energy and we strongly advice to keep a close eye on this one.

Sasha Rajkovich, aka Zarkoff, member of Sumerian Fleet, NauGrau, FFFC, Kali jugend and other collaborations, has been active in underground music since the mid 90s. EBM, acid and electro are most frequently visited genres in his musical output, with occasional drifts into post punk or techno. He also likes to express himself through lyrics, influenced by the likes of Leonard Cohen, Philip K. Dick or Vladimir Mayakovskij.
For this new EP, he delivers four cold and melancholic synth-electro tracks, inspired by Old Testament and Gnostic teachings about the nature of the Demiurge. All the vocoded and speech synthethised lyrics are direct quotes from King James translation of the Holy Bible. No comments have been provided by the author, only musical context, so listeners will be free to interpret it however they want.
