Slacker aka Sam Black's works have been simmering away online for a while now, creating a fair bit of buzz centred around his knack for choppy breaks, crunchy acid and rough production edges. Amen To The Lonely finally sees the young Brighton producer step out of the simulation and present four raw heaters from the HD. 

Amen To The Lonely is a tender masterpiece of jungle/DnB. Recalling the endless euphoria of early Bukem, Peshay and Good Looking Records, tinted with softened edges of late night melancholy. A heartbreaking anthem and a blistering yet mature production for such a burgeoning producer. 

See Yourself goes out on a hyper-crunched up tip. Mulching and scrunching distorted drum patterns with blasts of digitally-distorted noise. It all collides over a blasted vocal and provides an interesting template for unashamedly digital production tropes combined with a gentle air of analogue warmth. 

Clattering breaks, scuppered acid and rolling vocal loops underpin the slow-flowing grooves of Tape Rock. Glistening glass reflections shimmering onto the retinas of a hazed individual, making for a proper easy afternoon jam and kaleidoscopic brain filtration experience. 

Rounding out the EP is White Monk. Stepped toms, thumpin' kicks and cricket-call acid lines nibbling away at the floating carpet of pads. It's a soft landing and a cool evening breeze rolling through the club doors in the early hours. One for the lonely dancers.

The Prodigal Son returns to the label from whence his debut record was released. Live Ones have known Lorca for some 6 years, and seen/heard his sound evolve since their last encounter, back in the heady days of 2010. A lot has changed since, but it seems Lorca’s knack for a melodic hook is impervious to erosion from the sands of times- The tunefully delicate “All My Love” is a testament to the fact.

As the EP title would suggest, this Premiere is one of four odes to the late great prince of soul, Eddie Kendricks. Textures of some of Eddie’s hottest hits are woven throughout every cut, each brushed with a different stroke of Lorca’s artistry. Like one of The Temptations, “All My Love” fits like a glove into one of their infamous purple suits, dripping with pizzazz and swag - finger snapping and swaying for a full four minutes of soulful joy.

SYSTEM 7's previous release - the Passion EP - really hits the spot, showing that in 2013 they remain on top of their game with their unique blend of trance and techno.

The most recent full System 7 album UP (released May 2011) tips the balance a bit in a more techno and tech house direction, still showcasing the unique System 7 sound with ultra modern production and a feeling of positivity. The album was inspired by time spent in Berlin. The club single, taken from UP, is PositiveNoise, a collaboration with Berlin-based A Guy Called Gerald, and features a new deep techno remix from Carl Craig and a powerful remix from Japanese techno star A.Mochi. PositiveNoise also has great new Japanese animation video clip

SYSTEM 7’s Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy have had a strong influence on the birth of psychedelic dance music and it’s journey up to the present, forging a unique and bang up-to-date identity on the genre map, in a space where techno, progressive and trance meet – with a healthy side-element of unique quality ambient chill which is connected and reflected in their sister project Mirror System. 

Since the beginning of the 90s System 7 projects have been marked by a series of high powered collaborations, working with Detroit luminaries Derrick May and Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, The Orb, Jam El Mar, Son Kite among others. System 7’s club singles have had outstanding remixes from the likes of Plastikman, James Holden and Dubfire, whose mix of Space Bird was number one on Beatport’s main chart for 2 weeks in 2008.
