DOC SCOTT is the 31 Records label boss, co-founder of Metalheadz, undisputed 'King Of The Rollerz' and there are few superlatives that justify his importance and clout in the history of D&B. 

One of the original DJs to shape the scene since the early 90s, notably from residencies at the Blue Note & Speed, his inimitable skills as a producer and label boss have taken the music into unprecedented terrains.

With 31 Records back in full swing and an Om Unit Remix of Shadow Boxing dropping next month, we felt the timing was perfect to bring you this mix from a truly ground breaking selector.

Bassic Mix #5 - Doc Scott

Not much more than a year has passed since the Zenker Brothers presented their debut EP – ‘Lion in Mars’ – on Tresor Records.

The follow-up record segues perfectly between a triumphant year in the studio and in performance, and a 2014 which promises to take their growing reputation for blazing techno to new heights. ‘Stratus Phunk’ is an incendiary record, developing the ideas seeded in their first release to their fullest extent.

The title track runs along the entire A-side. Building the raw acoustic sounds of wind instruments into a rolling jam which soon becomes an unstoppable locomotive, shapeshifting in and out of smoky synth lines, tracky hi-hats and acetic basslines, « Stratusphunk » is a vintage tune forged in the Tresor basement furnace.

On the flip, « Thirty-Who » and « Vamp Like » explore the more splintered dimensions of the Münich based brothers’ work, familiar to whoever follows the releases on their own Ilian Tape label.

B2. Zenker Brothers - Vamp Like

Fifteen years have passed since the release of the first and only ‘Demo Tracks’ compilation to date on Tresor Records. For this new commencement, we are proud to present three exceptional upcoming producers, selected amongst the various different paperboard envellopes and electronic communications received daily, here in the vault.

Acronym has been slowly and mysteriously instructing his sound over the last three years through his own Dimensional Exploration imprint out of Stockholm. With ‘Nabu’ he presents a dimension of his work so far only known to those who had the chance to hear him perform live.

Hailing from the northern Spanish surroundings of Bilbao, J.C. is a young producer whose work has surfaced on labels like Deeply Rooted or Greener. He also runs an eponymous record series and offers here a shaking number ‘CheNox’, keeping his ears riveted on the Berlin sound.

Last but far from least, Zadig is a producer who has been regularly catching our attention. Growing figure of the French and Parisian scene, his polished sound possesses many different facets. With ‘Panic’, Zadig looks back to some of the crudest moments of the Tresor catalog.

AlphaWave – Plastikman Acid House Remix by Richie Hawtin  (1995) – Undoubtedly System 7’s biggest track, still sounding massive today. This is the first time the full length version has been released on an album CD. The original track was also on the Point 3 Fire and Water albums, and gave it’s name to their label.

X-Port - the latest album release of System 7 - presenting a unique combination of techno and trance beats and live musicianship. SYSTEM 7's previous release - the Passion EP - really hits the spot, showing that in 2013 they remain on top of their game with their unique blend of trance and techno.

The most recent full System 7 album UP (released May 2011) tips the balance a bit in a more techno and tech house direction, still showcasing the unique System 7 sound with ultra modern production and a feeling of positivity. The album was inspired by time spent in Berlin. The club single, taken from UP, is PositiveNoise, a collaboration with Berlin-based A Guy Called Gerald, and features a new deep techno remix from Carl Craig and a powerful remix from Japanese techno star A.Mochi. PositiveNoise also has great new Japanese animation video clip

SYSTEM 7’s Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy have had a strong influence on the birth of psychedelic dance music and it’s journey up to the present, forging a unique and bang up-to-date identity on the genre map, in a space where techno, progressive and trance meet – with a healthy side-element of unique quality ambient chill which is connected and reflected in their sister project Mirror System. 

Since the beginning of the 90s System 7 projects have been marked by a series of high powered collaborations, working with Detroit luminaries Derrick May and Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, The Orb, Jam El Mar, Son Kite among others. System 7’s club singles have had outstanding remixes from the likes of Plastikman, James Holden and Dubfire, whose mix of Space Bird was number one on Beatport’s main chart for 2 weeks in 2008.
