System Failure explores the work of the sound/art/activist collective Ultra-red that creates different model of engagement between participatory art, organizing and public pedagogy. Through sound and critical listening, Ultra-red’s work is found on the intersections of art, critique, politics and grassroots organizing/community making  and has been valuable and influential to bridging art and political organizing, de-centring curation practices, as well as the creation and theorization of ambient and listening as a political vehicle tied to local communities, spaces, places, histories and political demands. Their broader activist-artistic praxis includes electronic music, field recordings, interviews, video pieces, participatory sound installations etc Founded in 1994 by two AIDS activists, Ultra-red have over the years expanded to include artists, researchers and organizers from different social movements including the struggles of migration, anti-racism, participatory community development, and the politics of HIV/AIDS.

With its 10th edition, Dalmata Daniel’s split series brings together two artists who have both left their mark on the label’s compilations, now presenting their first full releases on the imprint. Anatolian Weapons and The Spy approach electronic music from different angles, one rooted in hypnotic techno rituals, the other in raw electro and post-punk energy. Both craft sounds that thrive in the shadows of the dancefloor.

On the A-side, Anatolian Weapons delivers three cold, hypnotic cuts. "Trapped" opens with heavy EBM percussion and a buzzkill bassline, setting a tense, mechanical tone. "Further Spiralling Down" sinks deeper into darkness with a grinding low end, tight drums, and electro-tinged claps, forming the side’s relentless highlight. "Apathy Through Shock" closes with pounding, catatonic rhythms and a mournful, otherworldly melody, pushing the listener into disorienting depths.

Flipping over, The Spy’s raw, electro-driven energy takes hold. "Same Blur" channels sharp electro beats with a punkish sneer and cosmic synth lines. "Falling", featuring The Spy’s own vocals, leans into melancholic new wave, pairing bouncy rhythms with bittersweet melodies. The closing "Pretending" drifts into the darkest corners, offering low-slung, haunted electro layered with distant, spectral harmonies.

System Failure is a monthly radio show, currently airing on Kiosk Radio, focusing on decolonizing music histories through exploring local scenes, histories of places and communities along the lines of gender, race, class, citizenship status etc  mostly  outside the Anglo-American west (but including marginalized, indigenous and diasporic communities and artists). System Failure is seeking different trajectories in the use of music technologies, histories of scenes and places as well as community and belonging away from the common tropes, stereotypes and assumptions of Euro- and Anglo-American- centric gazes. The show ranges in format, from sets, to interviews/discussions and sound documentaries, to story telling  along with music, field recordings and archival material. We aim to showcase music from a variety of genres (with attention to electronic and experimental music) that is made primarily by individuals who identify as women, queer folks but also marginalized communities along with histories of their local scenes and influences/roots, surrounding and interrelated works of sound art, film, writing, spoken word including, interviews with artists, DJs, producers, collectors, labels, cultural critics, artists collectives etc. We aim to emphasize scenes and genres where the above artists’ contribution remains obscured, exploring local scenes that don’t get exposure to mainstream or even alternative media, as well as the work of labels, DJs and collectors that discover, preserve and give access to those works.
