After unfortunate circumstances took her and her husband's lives, the royal scientists went to work on finding a way to bring her and her husband back. Using dead snails (note: not Monster snails, just boring old regular snails) and Determination, they had managed to bring Toriel back. Now she aimlessly roams the Underground, searching for something that might bring her back fully, as opposed to being trapped in the now undead body of a snail.

Chara used to live with the royal family. But one day, when tragedy struck thanks to another human, Asgore waged war against humanity. Chara would be considered one of their own, but something didn't quite sit right with Chara. Uncomfortable, and worried they would one day be mistakenly attacked, they left for the royal family's old home in the Ruins. Nowadays, they spend their time looking after the fallen children in the hopes that they can keep them safe.

Mettaton was once King of the Underground, ruling alongside their cousin who was officially moreso the royal advisor, but he treated them like royalty just as much as he treated himself as such. He let this power get to his head a bit and started doing things that mostly benefitted himself. Nothing that'd actually put monsters in direct harm, he wasn't that stupid, but nothing that actually did anything good for them either.

One fateful day, he was overthrown by the people, exiled to the shadier part of the Underground, and the royal advisor was crowned monarch in his place.

Now Mettaton lives in the so-called slums of the Underground. He's managed to find a fairly decent space to live in, a place where he can recharge if necessary (which is very frequently the case given how much power his body drains... if only he had a more energy efficient mode) and where he can lie on the ground feeling like garbage.

Of course, despite his exile, he puts on a smile and his signature flamboyant confidence and acts as though there's nothing wrong! Because why would there be?

Complete sidenote, whenever relevant, thumbnails will also feature character designs now! The old thumbnails will slowly be updated as well, but my priority for the time being is going to be the ones that are being actively uploaded.

Constantly acting as though everything is fine can be very draining, both emotionally and physically -- Mettaton is no exception to that. By the time Oliver shows up at his house, he doesn't really have the energy (literally) to keep it up anymore, being a bit more quiet before inevitably breaking down in front of Oliver.

My true name.

Fanontale is an AU that takes inspiration from Undertale fanon perceptions by using it to influence the roles the beloved characters take, as well as manifesting in-universe, affecting the characters and their stories.
This is not an Undertale AU about "What if Undertale fanon was good", but rather one that seeks to answer the question of "what if fanon perceptions had direct consequences for the lives these characters live?"

Chara takes Frisk's role. They're a well-meaning troublemaker with a lot of emotional baggage. Having faced enough hardship for one lifetime on the Surface, and now having 'fallen' into an entirely new sort of problem, they find that these circumstances let them be themselves a little more... Whatever the heck that even is. Under their veil of snark and humour is still a scared child, after all.
They have a mischievous streak, a fascination with knives, an enjoyment of chocolate (you know, like every kid ever), and a concerningly existential view on karma and cosmic retribution. 
And they have absolutely nothing to hide about their old life, I swear.

Chara fell down into the Underground with the hopes that they'd either pass on on their own terms, or stumble upon the monsters they kept hearing so much about. They're not the most pleased with humanity as a whole, to say the least. There's been people in their past who put them through a lot of harassment. Some believe this is why Chara ended up where they are. 

Even underground, though, with humans that would come and go, the harassment wouldn't stop. Until the unfortunate demise of the royal family, humans used to be welcome and could safely enter and exit the Underground without much trouble. But when disaster struck, Chara knew exactly who to blame. They decided it was time to take matters into their own hands, and finally formed the Royal Guard, something that had not yet been established at that time.

Chara actually once knew our protagonist, Oliver, but with the amount of time that passed and how much more they felt justified in their disdain for society, they have a hard time recognizing Oliver or trusting that they're "not like the others".

This song in particular plays during stealth sections where you do, in fact, believe you can stay hidden from Chara.

Once upon a time… 
An unlikely era of hope had entered the world of monsters. 
Yet this peace- if one could call it that- was soon due to fall into chaos. 
A strange KNIGHT, whispering in shadows, spoke of an ancient prophecy.
The true meaning of which had finally been uncovered. 

The heavens would come, and send to the underworld a messenger. 
One who would lead both monsters and humans alike to the horror of eternal darkness. 

People descended into panic and frenzy. 
All attempts made to disprove this were ignored.

Some think of them as the end of the world, the final nail in the coffin for monsterkind, and others idolise them to an absurd extent, heralding them as their new god.

Wowie MrEpic, two uploads in two days? That's a new record! Haha, kill me.

In all seriousness, I had an idea in my head earlier, so I decided to put it out in music. This is a song I've actually been meaning to do for a while, to show my new found respect for Charataker as an AU. While it had a rough start for me, it's getting interesting, and I'm starting to really like it. Chara still looks like a girl though >:U. If you're wondering about the name, it's a reference to how Asgore's Bergentruckung is (aka, just like Asgore I couldn't come up with a creative name)I don't know their exact relationship in the AU but I assume they had one at some point.

Another Chara caretaker AU will be getting a separate Fallen Down shortly, as this one wouldn't work for that AU. It's up to you to decide which one will be better.

Aftergore is a series of AUs taking place after Undertale's neutral endings, in which a new human enters in Frisk's wake.
Aftergore II, the Betrayed Undyne ending, details an ending in which Frisk ruins their streak of pacifism right before the end, slaying the celebrity robot Mettaton on live television. Toriel has taken her ex-husband Asgore's place after his death, and she struggles to maintain morale in an increasingly wary underground. Humans are to be treated not as enemies, but as friends. At least...in theory.

Burgerp-- I mean "Boomstick," the name he insists he be called at all times, takes the role of Undyne. After his boss's untimely demise, he had a complete image change. He's gone from a dead-end frycook to a tough-as-nails greaser, roaming Waterfall with his newfound posse causing chaos. Just don't ask him where he came from.

[Aftergore II] Dynamo

T-SPIN is a set of Undertale AUs made by Toadie, based on Storyspin and its further-spun brethren, which probably have better names than "Spinspin" and "Triplespin" but none that I can particularly specifically remember.
