90年代初頭、セカンド・サマー・オブ・ラブ以降商業へと走ったシカゴ・ハウスの重鎮達へのアンチテーゼとして、Richard D. JamesはMartin Tressider, Mike DredはThe Kosmic Kommandoなる名儀で、その他〈Rephlex〉のメンバーも結集し発足された、今だ多くの謎に包まれるアシッド・ハウス・クルー Universal Indicator。 UKアシッドのパイオニア 808 State, A Guy Called Gerald、Baby Ford などからの影響を受け、自らがレコードで欲しいと思うアシッド・ハウスを体現したプロジェクトであり、 92年〜95年に赤、青、黄、緑の４枚の12”を同レーベルよりリリース。 01年にUltra Violetとして5枚目のUIが〈Beta Bodega〉より掘り起こされ、同年 Mike Dred が未発表も含めた音源を自らでミックスしたアルバム『Innovation In The Dynamics Of Acid』を発表。アナログ・シーケンサー / シンセの名機TR606, TB303、SH101、MC202をメンバ ーに見立て、アシッド・ハウス全盛期におけるレイヴ・ミュージックのバイブレーションを当時のデジタルへと移行するシーンに持ち込み衝撃を走らせる。
