Depuis plus de deux décennies, Sebastian Russell façonne une techno hypnotique et immersive, quelque part entre l'ombre et la lumière. Après 19 ans à Londres, il est maintenant basé dans le sud de la France au coeur de la forêt des Landes, un décor qui semble influencer ses productions d’une atmosphère aussi organique que mystique. Pour cet EP, il nous offre cinq tracks pensées pour les dancefloors enfumés des clubs et les raves perdues en pleine nature. K.O.P. 32 vient conclure la release avec un remix "tunnelique" dont il a le secret !

For more than two decades, Sebastian Russell has been crafting hypnotic and immersive techno, somewhere between light and shadow. After 19 years in London, he is now based in the south of France, in the heart of the Landes forest—a setting that seems to imbue his productions with an atmosphere both organic and mystical. For this EP, he delivers five tracks designed for the smoke-filled dancefloors of clubs and raves lost in the wilderness. K.O.P. 32 closes the release with a "tunnel-like" remix, showcasing his signature touch !

Abstract

Set the Mood with DJ Serko!

For DJ Serko, a perfect opening set consists of several key elements. First and foremost is a slow tempo. While most club sets are high-energy and fast-paced, an opening set provides the space to experiment with lower BPMs and minimalist elements. It’s a rare opportunity to set a unique tone for the night, easing people into the atmosphere rather than overwhelming them from the start.

Another essential aspect is genre exploration. An opening set allows room for sounds that are often overlooked, such as wave, cold wave, downtempo, and ambient. The gradual build-up of energy is just as important as track selection, creating a flow that invites listeners into the night. When DJ Serko first started going out in Amsterdam, he was deeply inspired by the slower tempos and adventurous selections of artists like Beesmunt Soundsystem/BSS and Max Abysmal, as well as the sounds he encountered at venues like Garage Noord, De School, and Claire, and the countless radio shows on Redlight Radio. This mix serves as an ode to that formative time—a reflection of the atmosphere that shaped his musical journey.

Hailing from Amsterdam, DJ Serko is a multifaceted artist with a deep-rooted passion for underground music. While best known as a DJ and producer, he is also a drummer in the band Whalefall, one half of the techno duo FLOU, and an organizer of Auris listening sessions in Amsterdam. At his core, however, he is simply a raver, constantly exploring and sharing the music that moves him.

His sets normally defy genre constraints, seamlessly weaving together old-school house, techno, breakbeats, and experimental sounds. He has a strong affinity for vinyl, recently shifting his focus toward vinyl-only sets and championing music from the underground scene, including tracks from friends and lesser-known artists. Whether diving into ambient soundscapes or high-energy rave selections, the music DJ Serko plays is a reflection of his boundless curiosity and commitment to musical discovery.
