While I'm not yet a father, I would be lying if I said I wasn't immensely excited for all of the wisdom and experience fatherhood will bring. As a younger man, I wasn't interested in, as I saw it, shackling myself to something that needed constant care. I'm at a point now where this responsibility feels like a magical adventure.

This EP contains 2 tracks I re-discovered from almost TEN YEARS AGO! Back then I was too absorbed in myself and attaining a sense of freedom that I believed the world was keeping from me to ever imagine raising a human. I did make a lot of beautiful music though 😆

It's a marvel to contemplate how much I've grown since these were created; how many things have matured my understanding of life and my place within it. I don't claim to have all the answers today but BOY - did I absolutely not have them when I made these tracks. 

With love and nostalgic fondness, I present these pieces of music I made with buckets of naïveté and an open, learning heart.

Last weekend, I flew back to LA from my new home in the Costa Rican jungle to play at Mycelium - an intimate little gathering in Topanga Canyon. It was hot as balls so I am very grateful to my better half for convincing me to experiment with short sleeved silk shirts because my usual uniform of thick-ass Wrangler shirts would have left me fainting on stage.

Listening to "Cha Cha" takes me back to 2015, when a bright-eyed version of myself first arrived in Los Angeles to, as I saw it, take over the world. I was put in a room with Anabel to write some songs at the Interscope studios and I could not have been more excited about the opportunity and everything I imagined the future to hold.

Life has turned out very differently in more ways than I can imagine and while I'm grateful for it all, it's beautifully melancholic to connect with that past version of myself through this song and grieve that specific flavour of youth I am no longer in possession of.

P.S. You may have noticed this is the 'velvet' version - an alternative that for various reasons got released instead of the original. Who knows? One day you may actually hear the original... It's quite something 🪄

Dear Ishiv (Part I)

I made this with Sam in a hot LA apartment early this year. I was drinking from a selection of the finest 'novelty' size ice tea cans they do in the US and Sam had water. Also that seagull in the picture killed a pigeon while I was finishing this off. I saw it fall out of the sky. Quite majestic really - circle of life and that.

Premiere: TÂCHES - Laurel Canyon [Glitter Cowboy]

I'm thrilled to announce the release of my next EP 'In The Company of Others' on GLITTER COWBOY!

I made this EP at a pivotal moment in my life; during deciding whether to stay in LA or move back to Europe. Unsure about how to proceed, I'd made these two tracks and named them in memory of my nearest big cross streets for the past year; 'Ventura' and 'Laurel Canyon'. Flash forward a month and I've decided to commit to staying in LA. I'm living with some of the most wonderful and inspiring people I know and weirdly enough - as if the track title foreshadowed what would happen once I decided to stay - we've just moved to Laurel Canyon!

I'm feeling so inspired, life is beautiful and I can't wait for you to hear what I've got lined up for you over the next few months.

In the Company of Others

Ventura

Having grown up in Mallorca, listening to IBIZA SONICA RADIO, it's a real honour to make a guest mix of almost entirely original material (including a couple of unreleased tracks) for When We Dip that was broadcast live on the air (92.4FM in the Balearic Islands) and on the Ibiza Sonica website.

For the entirety of my career up until now, I think I feared playing my own songs in sets and mixes because I felt they were inadequate when compared to what inspired me. I spent so much time trying NOT to listen to electronic music that I developed a void in between what I loved to listen to and what I loved to make. It's only natural to view your work as 'lesser' when comparing house music to the Motown greats. That being said, lately I feel that I've found it in myself to let go and see what I do for what it is - and what it isn't - in turn taking the pressure off for me to live up to these impossible standards that I've set for myself and focus on creating for the love of it.

After finishing this mix I sat in the sunshine and mindfully listened through with a loose ear and an open heart, and I'm happy to say that I AM PROUD of the music I make and that I will do everything I can to continue living a life dedicated to the creation of things I love.

Love your work and take pride in the things you made from the heart.

Time just keeps on slipping and all I can do is watch it flow like sand through my fingers. 

Even slowly, spend your life working for what you want. Create things just for the hell of it. Develop a defined taste. Pick up and drop new hobbies and interests like an excitable dog its toys. Tell people you love them if you feel you do. Treat yourself to something you can't afford every now and then and really enjoy it. Be warm and open but firm with what you stand for. Surround yourself with people that make you happy and don't be afraid to completely cut someone off if they're making you a worse version of yourself - they're wasting your life. Always encourage yourself to improve. Pick your battles; say no sometimes. Sit in the sun when you can.

All three of my housemates went away a couple of weeks ago, leaving me all alone on the mountain. At first, I felt a little daunted by the concept of being totally by myself, but within a couple of days, I found that the drive to create and put in place plans grew immense. I started and finished a lot of very exciting new musical ideas and discovered and explored a whole manner of new processes and techniques. I also managed to instil a very calming routine upon my life when I was done working, which revolved mostly around going for walks and cooking. I tried a few days of silence, where I forgot the sound of my own voice and a day of chattering non stop about whatever would choose to come out of my mouth. My point is, I guess, to try not to feel afraid of time alone. You can learn a lot from yourself if you just give yourself a chance.

Since my second release on Glitter Cowboy two months ago, I've felt ever so liberated. For a long time I let my creative fire lie pretty dormant, opting instead to complain about having to kowtow to labels to progress or how hard it is to finish things. I wasted months procrastinating about getting the final mix and master out of an idea, because it just felt too difficult to get there. Maybe it was very almost finished, but the bass sounded a little muddy and the thought that something I would be showing to the world would be anything less than perfect continuously prevented me from achieving completion.

All of this changed when I realised that with my label, I no longer have to work to appease anyone or anything. My mix downs aren't always super clean and my masters are sometimes very different in volume and bass content, but that's ok because I made it anyway. Each release is a timestamped window into a period of my life and loves that gets to live on forever as a piece of music. I think that’s too special to pass up on, so I’m going to continue making a lot of beautiful, at times muddy music with the same pure intentions.

TÂCHES - #4 MAY MIX

My family got some sad and sudden news recently that has really thrown our world upside down. While it's an unquestionably difficult time, I'm grateful to say that each moment is a lesson and that we're all growing immeasurably despite the hardship. It's moments like these, when you're living quite so close to your emotions that you really end up feeling everything. It's all magnified; you laugh hysterically and then you cry hysterically, but throughout it all, there's a deep rooted sense of appreciation and beauty in all around you that I feel we lack a lot of the time when everything is fine.

I started this mix the afternoon before my world was rocked, and had been unable to finish it until last night. Yesterday was arguably the hardest day so far, but in the darkness I found the strength to finish this off and write a very moving piece of music expressing what we're going through. 

It's wonderful how music can give you such genuine answers, without saying any words at all. I hope you enjoy this hour of music that makes me happy and I hope it does the same for you.

Romance is dead? Romance is as alive as you decide to be. Much like death, romance gives us the chance to really work out the balance between who we are and who we want to be, where we’ve been and where we’re going. We get free reign to go a little mad and be a touch more vulnerable than we are usually. It’s the closeness to consciousness coupled with the distance from routine that makes it such a unique experience. In celebration of romance and naked passion, I present to you the first song of five that make up ‘Heart Over Heels’, my sixth EP on Glitter Cowboy.

Shirtless and shoeless, TÂCHES sits cross-legged in the dirt gently taking in his mountain surroundings. It’s clear that he’s deep in thought as he mindfully traces the shape of a fallen leaf in his hand and a slight smile gently spreads across his face. There’s a tangible feeling of love and fascination communicated through the way he looks at the world around him and it’s precisely this holistic approach to creativity that makes him such a captivating artist. This is the makeup of a being that finds passion and inspiration anywhere he looks. 

Contradictorily, he is as much a devotee to tradition as he is a breaker of rules. TÂCHES is uninterested in following trends, and instead seeks to provoke the senses through a deeply personal examination of culture and cliche. Conceptual without ever being pretentious, his music shows a deep rooted appreciation for the textures of the times passed and faraway places. There’s a certain urgency to capture the world as he perceives it; albeit a world seen through the rose tinted lenses of a creature forever romantically entangled with his surroundings.

There’s no one way to sum up TÂCHES’s music, as it’s perpetually in growth, bending and swaying like a tree in the wind. This sonic metamorphosis is due to a primal need to experiment coupled with a deep longing to express the continually transforming experience of being human. Drawing heavily from emotion and memory, there’s a clear sense of nostalgia in all that he creates. His pure and unabashed desire to combine the things that he loves manifests itself as rich and evocative music with massive personality and palpable global flavours. 

TÂCHES’s desire to build upon the world in which his music exists led to the creation of his label GLITTER COWBOY - the peculiar home for the sonic documentation of his journey. When you listen to GLITTER COWBOY, you are nakedly experiencing life through the eyes of TÂCHES as he seeks to embody self-awareness and optimism, along with finding inner peace through nature, artistic expression and simplicity of living.
