Ian Latham’s music biography
I was born and grew up in North London to English and Malaysian Chinese parents. I started piano lessons aged 5 and clarinet aged 13. My school UCS promoted weekly jazz which gave me an early window into world class live jazz (Charlie Rouse, Jean Toussaint, Adelaide Hall, Jason Rebello, Bobby Shew, James Moody, etc). Here I met Barak Schmool who became an early musical mentor who introduced me to Loose Tubes, Django Bates and Ian Ballamy and world music (Samba, salsa, Ewe drumming).
Royal Academy of Music jazz summer schools. Met Steve Coleman at Nice Jazz Fest.  Studied sitar with Wajahat Khan 1992.
Music degree at York 1993-6. Ethnomusicology at UCLA 1994.
Sound and Lights engineer at Jazz Bakery, Los Angeles (George Coleman, Yusef Lateef, Benny Carter, Ahmad Jamal, Kevin Eubanks etc).
York Composition folio 1996 led to Ravi Coltrane introducing me to Elvin Jones. At this point I started working in finance so music went on the back burner. Solo piano compositions c.2000. Logic compositions 2017.
The pandemic of 2020 gave me the opportunity to reconnect with music. I started jazz piano lessons over Zoom with Greg Spero July 2020.
Joined Open Studio 2022 after seeing Peter Martin perform with Christian McBride at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Masterclasses with Geoffrey Keezer and Emmet Cohen. 
In 2024, I started a Master's degree in Jazz Piano at the Guildhall  and was appointed as a Trustee at Serious Trust. I was appointed a Director of the Vortex Jazz Club in 2025.

Performer and songwriter Simon Jaymes was Indy award Finalist as Best Male Solo Act back in 2008, Runners up for online magazine and radio station Somojo as ‘Male artist of the year’ in  2010,  Finalist as ‘Best Male Solo Artist’ and ‘Best Indie/Rock Artist’ with  The People’s Music Awards 2011 and Winner of  Raven Black Music’s  Exposure Music awards 2011. With  influences such as John Martyn, Dave  Matthews & Pearl Jam his Debut Album ‘Wild Life’ is uplifting, thought provoking & musically timeless in a highly unique & original way. He lyrically communicates his songs as a storyteller, combining his varied life experiences with fantasy. Simon’s poignant lyrics, vocal hooks &  catchy fingerpicker melodies integrate seamlessly with beautiful  full-band arrangements. Recorded using only  full live takes with minimal overdubs; this eclectic debut album  displays his versatility as  a singer/songwriter & guitarist covering  the genres & sounds of Soul, folk, rock, melodic rock, acoustic, & blues. Simon has  classed this album as Acoustic/Rock. 
His Single  ‘Sailboat’ & Debut album ‘Wild Life’ was released under  his own  label in 2010 (SJH Music Ltd). originally inspired by Mentor and Uncle, the late James Martin Rex for whom was  known and respected as an accomplished record producer and engineer.

Dan Atrill has played in a number of UK bands. Writing and performing as Ideal Takeaway in Southend-on-Sea. 

As guitarist in Suspicious Objects (2015-2019), an Anglo-Italian Krautrock-influenced outfit they received praise for their live performances at London’s Betsey Trotwood venue. 

He played over 100 gigs with his band Spring Park Motel from 2008 to 2013, including helping to run a monthly club night and making appearances at the annual East Finchley and East Barnet festivals. The band regularly played  around Camden, North London, and at a number of long running popular music events including Honky Tonkin’ Sundays, What’s Cookin’, Come Down And Meet The Folks, Dusk Till Dawn and Clerkenville West. Their recorded output can be found on Spotify and on an independently released CD titled Cousins In Arms. 

Dan previously embraced power pop as guitarist, then bass player in radio-friendly band, The Melancholiacs, who split in 2007 after their last gig at Islington’s Hope & Anchor.

Influences are far and wide including a fascination with fat synth sounds and multi-layered guitars. He writes and records musical collaborations from his home studio in Essex.
