We’re coming at you with podcast #142, beautiful people, this time with massive love and thanks to Polygonia, the deep techno, downtempo and ambient artistic project of Lindsey Wang.

We adore the depth, versatility and originality that comes from the very core of Polygonia - a project which is the culmination of years of Lindsey’s musical experience, including her dedication to learning multiple acoustic instruments (violin, guitar, piano, sax), as well as her intrigue for and exploration of multiple genres and sub genres.

As one of the founders of the audiovisual platform, IO (together with Dycide and MTRL) - "a space for endless possibilities" - Lindsey is a musician and artist who truly embraces and celebrates the beauty of diversity and the ability to draw on the various musical influences we become immersed in over time to create a very personal, and very unique, creative output, encompassing so much that’s come before it.

The outputs of Polygonia are solidly grounded in deep and ambient; Lindsey can work some serious rhythmic magic and is never afraid to push boundaries which for us, makes her a stand-out artist with a magnetic musical personality.

As for her journey for On the 5th Day, all we’ll say is be ready for an array of stunning twists and turns, and mesmerising originality, magnifying the very essence of the Polygonia we’ve grown to love.

On the 5th Day Podcast #142 - Polygonia

Lindsey Wang, the mind behind Polygonia, is a versatile musician and artist based in Munich, Germany. A long time before her electronic music journey began, she explored the realms of several acoustic instruments intensively. This skill combined with studies of various other art forms, inspired the artist to translate her understanding of rhythm, composition and experimentalism into the digital
music language.

Her sound identity is driven by a mystic, deep and organic character which is enriched with acoustic elements built into the genres of deep techno, downtempo and ambient.
Polygonia already released her music on several labels like Lowless, Jazz-o- Tech, On Board Music, Lett Records, Alexandar and more. She expresses herself in various ways through Live- and DJ-Sets. Her audio color palette covers a huge spectrum from calm and harmonic sounds to polyrhythmic dark grooves.

Together with Dycide and MTRL she founded the ambient and deep techno label
IO.

Polygonia represents a multidisciplinary music and art project conceived by Lindsey Wang from Munich, Germany.

She draws inspiration from her many years of practicing various acoustic instruments and her keen interest for other cultural forms of expression, which she translates into the digital language of electronic music and art.

The soundscape of her own productions conveys a mystical, organic character and features driving complex rhythms. Polygonia’s sound palette ranges from energetic, groovy Deep Techno, Downtempo, Grey Area to textural and/or harmonic Ambient. Besides, she is not afraid to include influences from the genres House, Drum and Bass, Electro etc.. In addition motifs and scenarios from nature play a major role in many of her productions. 

Her DJ and live sets too reflect her passion for different genres. Depending on the time of day and setting, Polygonia shows a different musical side. What unites all her dance music sets is the hypnotizing effect that invites to completely lose oneself in the world of sounds for a longer period of time. Several voices from the audience also confirm that the musician always tells a complex story within her mixes, allowing for very clear highs and lows. In the same set there can be very harmonic passages, which provide emotional moments and on the other hand extremely texture-heavy dark tracks, which establish a connection with the subconscious and put the listener in a kind of trance.

Polygonia es un proyecto multidisciplinar de música y arte concebido por Lindsey Wang, de Múnich (Alemania).

Se inspira en sus muchos años de práctica de diversos instrumentos acústicos y en su gran interés por otras formas culturales de expresión, que traduce al lenguaje digital de la música y el arte electrónicos.

El paisaje sonoro de sus producciones transmite un carácter místico y orgánico y se caracteriza por sus ritmos complejos. La paleta sonora de Polygonia abarca desde el enérgico y groovy Deep Techno, Downtempo y Grey Area hasta el Ambient textural y armónico. Además, no teme incluir influencias de los géneros House, Drum and Bass, Electro etc.. Además, los motivos y escenarios de la naturaleza desempeñan un papel importante en muchas de sus producciones. 

Sus actuaciones como DJ y en directo también reflejan su pasión por distintos géneros. Dependiendo de la hora del día y del escenario, Polygonia muestra una faceta musical diferente. Lo que une a todos sus sets de música dance es el efecto hipnotizador que invita a perderse por completo en el mundo de los sonidos durante un largo periodo de tiempo. Varias voces del público también confirman que la músico siempre cuenta una historia compleja dentro de sus mezclas, permitiendo agudos y graves muy claros. En el mismo set puede haber pasajes muy armónicos, que proporcionan momentos emotivos, y por otro lado pistas oscuras extremadamente cargadas de texturas, que establecen una conexión con el subconsciente y ponen al oyente en una especie de trance.

Having rounded out the spring with his stunning revision of the trance classic 'Strange World', Grigoré returns to Spectrum with a new symphonic adventure in 'The Journey'.

As an age old metaphor of the electronic scene and one often used to describe the most epic of DJ sets, the 'journey' became the trademark of the best in the business. Those that took their listeners and dancers to new spaces, exploring musical tangents, surprising, and delivering goosebump moments often across lengthy, but beautifully paced nights. Grigoré's 'The Journey', as its name suggests, is a perfect soundtrack for these occasions.

Piano chords and an escalating orchestral melody sweep us along before we drop, to then rise again, never quite cresting its peak and leaving us wanting more.

With 'Flush', Grigoré turns the dial and ramps the intensity. Firing his staccato synth line and building with shimmering chords that simultaneously drive the track forward, to continue our journey.

Ahead of this weekend’s Bassiani booking, Berghain resident Fadi Mohem delivers a masterful blend of large scale rhythms for Bassiani Podcast 247. Raised in the leafy suburb of Spandau, the native Berliner always had the very best of nightlife within easy reach: exposure to drum ‘n’ bass, Detroit, the dubby incarnations of Basic Channel and IDM meting out references for a personal distillation of sound that saw him go from techno acolyte and sound engineering student to folk mainstay in just a few years. A stint at cult vinyl purveyor Hard Wax and the tutelage and encouragement of Ben Klock (they met in 2016) have permeated his work even further. From his alma mater to Dekmantel and beyond, his is a lexicon comprised of rhythmic loops and heavily stylised snarls that ripple, echo and penetrate the body; a catalyst for mental and physical experience that’s forward-looking and deeply intuitive. This latest one’s a 92 minute compilation of Mohem’s favourite sounds, an avatar for his high-concept sonic palette, assembly line beats from this nonpareil Berlin selector.
