Ice in my veins

This title is a personal processing of a well-known train accident involving a high-speed train in Germany in 1998. As I worked as an engine driver myself for many years and started my apprenticeship in exactly the same year, I have a special connection to this accident. I find this accident particularly tragic because it could very easily have been prevented. The way those responsible treated the victims, the bereaved and those who suffered still makes me very angry to this day.

This piece is quite experimental and is intended to musically depict the last devastating moments of the train. The piece lasts about as long as it took from the breaking of the wheel tire to the end of the catastrophe at the bridge in Eschede. 
In addition to the only partially given harmonies and rhythms (of the train), there are increasingly disharmonious sounds and effects, culminating in a cacophony that reflects the final shattering events. From the bursting of the wheelset, to the tearing off of the wheel guide from switch 2 in Eschede and the resulting derailment of a bogie, to the ultimately decisive shifting of the switch blades of switch 3, which then led to the derailment of the rest of the train and thus also the collapse of the bridge. 
After the total escalation and the dramatic climax, there is only bewilderment, silence and the powerlessness that such a great tragedy leaves behind.
