This is an instrumental cover of Pretty in Pink I recorded years ago, back when my old band thought we could sneak a New Wave anthem into our mostly garage-punk-shoegaze setlist and make it work. We never actually played it live—something about the tempo always felt like it belonged to a different kind of heartbreak than we were used to performing. Still, I held onto this version. It sounds like 2 a.m. in someone else’s kitchen, the party long since over, with cheap strings of fairy lights still on and no one bothering to turn off the amp. It’s less about nostalgia and more about that fleeting moment where you thought reinvention was still possible—before the morning came and reminded you otherwise.

An instrumental cover of Boys Don’t Cry—the song that first tricked me into thinking new wave was a lifestyle choice and that playing guitar could solve emotional repression. I found it a decade late in the mid-‘90s, when it already sounded like a postcard from someone else’s youth. Still fun to play, even if I’ve long outgrown the whole “emotions are embarrassing” thing. It’s like visiting your teenage bedroom and realizing you turned out okay anyway.

Nearly a decade ago, I recorded an instrumental cover using a guitar, bass, drum pad, and a synth module on GarageBand for iPad—meant for a girlfriend to sing over, though that never happened, the way the relationship didn’t quite either. It sat unfinished, waiting for a voice that kept postponing itself, much like we did. Now it’s just a loop of almosts: a space left open for something that never came, a quiet timestamp of a feeling that tried to become a song but settled, instead, into memory.

Fun Fact: When I was young, I wanted to be an Astronaut. I had fantasies of bringing my imaginary girlfriend to space with me and watching her fill up with awe of the stars. Now I can take people to space, imaginarily, with music.

We are an indie electronic music label that support DIY music projects regardless of their genre.

Red Sector 1 is a Canadian synthpop duo-turned-trio, known for their melodic, emotionally charged electronic sound. The group originally formed in mid-1991 when keyboardist Michael Davis placed an ad in a local newspaper seeking a vocalist. Clarke responded, and together they recorded the debut album World Peace in 1992.

In the summer of 1993, Clarke departed the band. Later that year, Andrew B joined as lead vocalist, solidifying the creative core of Red Sector 1. This lineup released two full-length albums: An Optimistic Delight (1994) and The Future Is Everlasting (1999). The band also contributed to numerous synthpop and electronic music compilations throughout the '90s.

After a period of inactivity, Red Sector 1 reemerged with a fresh burst of creativity. On January 31, 2025, they released "Hollywood Glamour Queen (Hollywood Remix 2025)," marking a bold return to the scene and hinting at a new era of evolution.

In 2024, the band officially expanded with the addition of Carlos Pereira on guitar, additional synths, and backing vocals—transforming Red Sector 1 from a duo into a trio. His contributions add new texture, energy, and warmth to the music.

Their latest single, "My GPS Found Love," is a pulsing synth-driven anthem exploring themes of digital connection and unexpected love. It’s the lead single from their forthcoming album, slated for release later this year, and showcases a renewed creative direction.

Influenced by icons like New Order and Depeche Mode, Red Sector 1 continues to combine vintage synthpop aesthetics with modern songwriting and production. With a refreshed lineup and renewed passion, they remain a vital and evolving voice in the synthpop landscape—still retro, still futuristic, and more inspired than ever.

Gerhard Andreas Schreiber. Since the 1980s,  composing and producing music under the name octave plateau. What began in the shadowed clubs of the post-punk era and the neon-lit pulse of the Neue Deutsche Welle has grown into a lifelong journey through diverse soundscapes and emotions.

Back then, working with artists like Markus, capturing the spirit of a generation in transition – between analog grit and melodic futurism. But the musical path didn’t stop there.

Today, octave plateau bridges four distinct yet emotionally intertwined genres:

Smooth Jazz – music like warm light on late-night streets; gentle grooves, atmospheric chords, and melodies that breathe and linger. It’s the sound of reflection and release, crafted with subtlety and soul.

New Wave – shimmering synths, melancholic harmonies, and rhythm-driven storytelling. A style rooted in the 80s, but constantly reinterpreted to reflect the tension and beauty of the now.

Deutscher Schlager – emotional, melodic, and lyrical. I approach this genre with both respect and reinvention – drawing from its traditions while reshaping its form for contemporary ears.

Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW) – raw, ironic, and rhythmic. NDW has always been the rebellious heart of octave plateau, combining German lyrics with electronic textures, punk aesthetics, and a dose of playful absurdity.

In 2024, these songs – some newly written, others rediscovered and reimagined – are being produced in the octave plateau studio in Berlin. Here, the past and the present meet in harmony and friction. Analog synthesizers hum alongside digital clarity. Stories unfold in every track – sometimes with a wink, sometimes with a sigh.

octave plateau is not just a musical alias. It’s a lifelong project, a personal archive, and a sonic playground. Welcome to a place where genres speak to one another – and where every note has a memory.
