Worcester's Chief Equity Officer Kevin Lovaincy stops by Talk of the Commonwealth to talk about his role with the city. He's only been on the job for two months and joins the administration at a time when American businesses are pulling back from DEI. Worcester, however, is committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs. The conversation starts with Lovaincy defining DEI and what it means in Worcester. Lovaincy says that DEI looks at exclusionary practices and tries to eliminate those systems to make sure that everyone has a fair opportunity. People need to feel accepted, heard and valued. He says it is a myth that less qualified people end up getting hired. Lovaincy says it is looking at some of the historic barriers that might have pulled individuals back. He says no matter what the climate is nationally Worcester, under City Manager Eric Batista, will remain committed to creating a welcoming city where people feel safe.

In this episode we kick off the first part in a series of podcasts on Taiwan’s Great Recall in which we aim to bring you perspectives from all sides of the debate at this important crossroads in Taiwan’s democratic journey.

As we explained in our previous episode on President Lai’s first year in office, while his party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) won the presidential vote in January of 2024, they failed to maintain a majority in the Legislative Yuan or parliament. As a result, the parliament has been controlled by the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) and their smaller ally the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) who according to opponents have sought to block the DPP’s agenda, freeze or cut budgets, undermine Taiwan's constitutional order and weaken efforts to bolster defense capabilities against growing Chinese military threats.

According to a report by Citizen Congress Watch (CCW), a Taiwanese NGO engaged in parliamentary monitoring, in the first session of the current parliament only a fraction of legislative proposals successfully passed the readings, reflecting low legislative efficiency as a result of the divisive partisan infighting that has taken precedence over advancing policies for public benefit.

The KMT insist that they are seeking to strengthen and protect Taiwan’s democracy and say these recalls are politically motivated. They accuse the ruling DPP of using recalls to eliminate the opposition. However, not all of the electorate would  appear to agree and a mass recall effort led by civic groups has been underway for months.

On June 20th, Taiwan’s election commission announced a recall vote for 24 KMT lawmakers - that’s around one quarter of the parliament's members - all from the main opposition party. 
The date for the recall vote has been set for July 26th.

J’ai beaucoup été influencé dans les années 90 par la pop culture (Michael Jackson entre autres…) ainsi que le rock progressif par mon père (Supertramp, Dire Strait, etc…) 

Début 2000 j’ai découvert la house grâce à David Guetta et sa compilation mixée des bains douches à Paris, que j’ai tout de suite accroché, 

Vivant sur la métropole Lilloise, j’ai profité de la chance de la proximité avec la belgique pour pouvoir sortir, dès que mon âge pouvait le permettre, dans les grands clubs électro proche de Tournai et de Mouscron tel que Lagoa, l’H2o, le Zoo et La Bush.

J’ai alors découvert la musique Trance progressive, melodic, l’électro minimaliste, mais également la house, deep house, et les musiques d’after qui reste très chère à mon goût ! 

À la suite de ça j’ai réussi à rentrer dans le staff de La Bush et y travailler chaque week-end en tant que ramasseur en salle, j’ai donc pu pendant plusieurs années, en plus de mon travail, écouter chaque Dj que j’ai rencontré personnellement ainsi que les Dj résidents emblématique de cette grande époque.

J’ai donc décidé en 2003 de passer le cap et de mettre également au mix, j’ai acheté une table de mixage une platine vinyle et un lecteur cd pour pouvoir maîtriser les deux supports en même temps et ne pas non plus investir trop gros sans savoir si j’allais réussir,

Mais en deux semaines j’ai réussi à savoir bien caler à l’oreille j’ai donc acheté plus gros (un double lecteur cd et 2 platines vinyles Numark)

De fil en aiguille j’ai commencé à me faire connaître et en 2005 j’ai eu la chance de pouvoir mixer chaque week-end au Liberty à Tournai, beaucoup en after et aussi quand les grosses boîtes était fermé.

Après ça malheureusement en 2006 j’ai dû arrêter pour cause professionnel, mais la passion était toujours présente, 

Depuis ce temps je suis toujours présent, que ce soit sur webradio comme dans des soirées, 

Mon style de mix ce situe donc entre la deep house, la house, l’électro, la trance et la tek, je mixe le plus souvent sur platine vinyles (2 Pioneer PLX 1000) et sur lecteur Cd (Denon DN D4500) avec une DJM 850 de Pioneer
