Stadtkind - Session: The Untold Story of a Generation
-Hip-Hop, Children of the German Reunification, and Life After-
The "Stadtkind - Session" is more than just an event. It's the revival of a shared identity. We, a group of old friends who grew up in the East Berlin hip-hop scene, are picking up the thread again after 30 years.
What's it about? In our youth, we were at home in youth clubs like the "FE" or the "Linse," shaping our world there with graffiti, beats, and microphones. Now, in our older age, we ask ourselves: What remains of that spirit? What drives us today? And what stories do we have to tell that no one has heard yet?
At the „Stadtkind - Sessions" at „Stadtkind Tattoo“ in Berlin-Schöneweide, we create a space for exactly this exchange:
Conversations & Stories: We invite old friends to talk about our experiences as children of the German reunification. What did the hip-hop youth culture give us for life?
Music & Art: Old beats meet new sounds. We show what "making something new out of something old" / upcycling really means.
Legacy & Dialogue: What can we, Generation X, pass on to today's youth from our experiences in a self-contradictory system? How do we manage to encourage and define new paths?
Kicking things off: DJ Nexs One - "A Soundtrack for Berlin and the World"
For our first „Stadtkind - Session“, DJ Nexs One from the old school will be spinning. His mix is ​​a musical journey through his roots in Lichtenberg, Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte. With breaks, beats, and a touch of acid, he bridges the gap between the chaos of the world and the longing for peace and justice. His set is a powerful bass experience that offers comfort and asks the question: What power lies within our generation to redefine the fight for a more just world?
Together we are writing our chapter in the history of German hip-hop. Because our story is not yet finished. All tracks used were released between November 2024 and October and are available for purchase at beatport.com (Genre: Breaks).
