The Ham GOAT (Darin the Greatest Of All Time!)

When I was a nine or ten-year-old child, my father began his journey into the world of amateur radio. I used to go to sleep in my room which was next to his, separated only by a door that was always closed. My father was particularly active in CW transmissions, the ones that use Morse code, and I would let myself be lulled by those sounds, those lines and dots that often overlapped with each other. The result was a mix of signals at different pitches that often increased or decreased in intensity following a perfect sine wave, and all of this sounded like music in my head. This piece is dedicated to I1UST, my father, and to all the old operators who, amateur or professional, have crossed the airwaves with their continuous wave signals.

Quando ero un bambino di nove o dieci anni, mio padre ha cominciato il suo percorso nel mondo dei radioamatori. Andavo a dormire nella mia stanza che era confinante con la sua, separata solo da una porta  sempre chiusa. Mio padre era particolarmente attivo nelle trasmissioni in CW, quelle che utilizzano il codice morse e io mi lasciavo cullare da quei suoni, quelle linee e quei punti che spesso si sovrapponevano gli uni agli altri. Il risultato era un mix di segnali ad altezze diverse che spesso aumentavano o diminuivano di intensità seguendo una perfetta sinosuide e tutto questo nella mia testa suonava come una musica. 
Questo brano è dedicato a I1UST, mio padre, e a tutti i vecchi operatori che, amatoriali o professionisti, hanno solcato l'etere coi loro segnali in onda continua.
