no matter when we were born, the end of the fucking world fascinates us.

this is a test of the Stylophone Drone Synthesizer recorded in my living room. the SDS (ha!) is augmented with the Behringer RD-6 which is a clone of the Roland 606. everything through the newly revived rack which includes a 12-channel Roland line mixer, a Yamaha SPX900, an Alesis MidiVerb II on the ever-beloved #45 "Bloom" setting, a Rane MC22 compressor (not used here), and a Rane SP15 parametric EQ that's chopping some noise out of the high end.

the whole thing was accidental...i was playing around with the synth and found two waveforms that offset well against each other. once that was happening the logical next step was to plug in a drum machine. enter the RD-6 which i've barely scratched the surface of, bearing a skeletal hip-hop-inspired 8-beat drum loop that i more or less matched to the synth loop. in practice the synth ends up playing a bar of 4 and a bar of 3-and-a-half at the drum tempo, so the synth moves around in relation to the drums which i think creates the illusion of more movement. yes, i played along on guitar with it. and yes, i may do a version based on the loop with additional effects and guitar a la "portneuf (version)."

not sure if i'm going to integrate this stuff into the loops, which have always been predicated on everything being played on standard guitars (and some odd ones) and effects. i might bring them in, or i might start a different page or playlist(s) for this sort of thing.
