𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒆: Ópalo - Ascenso Evolutivo (Feat. Pájaro De Rodillas, El Cínico Perro Flautista) [MIS008]

Ópalo is the alias of DJ/Producer Alejandro Romero and was created to explore down- tempo beats and ambient drifts. Focus points of the project touch mysticism and spirituality while the music is created to leave the listener questioning its intentions. As the focus drifts from why it was made to how you're feeling, clarity begins to shine through. The smooth, gentle, warm and deep sounds put the mind at ease, allowing the listener to find answers.

Sundial is a five track album created in Quito, Ecuador earlier this year. The album was created with a Yamaha MX49, a Korg Electribe and some effects from Arturia like the Buchla Easel, Synthi V and the Mini V. It also features collaborations from two Ecuadorian musicians, Pájaro de Rodillas and Luis García Montufar, who played a Fender Stratocaster and a quena respectively (quena is a traditional flute from the Andes commonly made from wood)

"Lost in Translation”, is inspired by the movie from Sofia Coppola. The track brings me to a place where love without pressure is often clouded with temporary feelings and circumstance. “Digresiones”, keeps the famous Ecuadorian painter Luigi Stornaiolo in mind as he loses the ability to paint with one hand but his story never gets dark. "Cuando se haga tarde" is an ambient experiment using guitar, synths and delays. In this track Pájaro & myself didn't want to be attached to a beat but rather explore the rhythms and counterpoint that we could generate between atmospheres and guitar melodies.

"Ascenso Evolutivo”, we added a quena from street artist ‘Lucho' García. This track started as a jam from three artists with different backgrounds but same taste for jazz and mystic soundscapes. We rehearsed and recorded it live and added bits of production later. "Donde la ciudad Explota❞ was created thinking about the north side of Quito. Its residents came for opportunities that the city offers but often find themselves lost in busy streets and pollution. Hopefully, this track provides an escape and clarity as they navigate through the fog.

Mysterious Traveller is the second full length by Ecuadorian artist Alejandro Romero aka Ópalo. His moniker had the intention to experiment with music that was not made for the dance floor as he already has another projects where he reflects his taste for danceable electronic music. 

In this album the artist experimented with field recordings and sounds from his every day life habits. This mixed in a sequential way where he tells a story of a mysterious traveller that has his own journey in the city life chaos. 

You can listen ambient experimentations with downtempo interludes that complement the album with rare idm gems.

Ópalo es el alias del dj/músico y productor Alejandro Romero. El objetivo de este nombre es dar un concepto a la música de estilo experimental, downtempo y ambiental que propone el artista. Con este alias Ópalo ya ha lanzado un LP en su propio sello ‘Caracteres’. Para sus presentaciones en vivo Ópalo usa dos formatos, un dj set o un live set. Sus dj sets son conocidos por mezclar música de varias épocas, especialmente conceptos experimentales dentro del downtempo. Sus live sets cobran un sentido más bien introspectivo en donde el artista aprovecha para mostrar sus procesos dentro del estudio a la hora de componer. En retrospectiva Ópalo es un proyecto que propone sonidos urbanos, profundos y de contenido humano usando un lenguaje futurista que a la vez recicla elementos del pasado, especialmente de la música noventera.

Dealing With Love es un disco que mezcla sonidos de la electrónica, el IDM y el downtempo. El contenido del disco podría ser considerado de carácter esotérico, sin embargo hay matices que también invitan al desahogo y a ver las cosas de adentro hacia afuera. El proceso del disco busca integrar las distintas partes que el artista ha ido trabajando con sus relaciones interpersonales. La mayoría de las canciones fueron compuestas en las afueras de Quito en una comunidad dedicada a la permacultura. Dealing with love es una exaltación a las emociones fuertes que despiertan tanto el trabajo manual, intelectual y espiritual.

Welcome to episode #105 - Ópalo

Ópalo is the alias of Alejandro Romero Jordan, an Ecuadorian producer based in Quito. Half Peruvian and half Ecuadorian from his mother's side, he is one of the most unknown exponents on the Ecuadorian scene, also getting along with some experimental acts like Rojo or Pinxame which are some of the upcoming artists in the underground scene. The ambient and electronic experimentations of Ópalo combine jazz, downtempo beats and also samples from folk music in his last compositions. Inspired by the sound of the 90's, Ópalo digs ambient music with melodic keyboards to make the audience reach a deep state of contemplation, appearing on labels and podcast series such as @caracteresrecordlabel, @secuencias_temporales, @itsdelayed, @futurepastnosenseoftime, and many others. For this occasion, Alejandro put together a special mix with his productions only.
