The first entry in the Scotty Archives — a collection of past sets that trace my journey as a DJ and performer.

This one takes me back to Then There Was House #005 at Trinity Social House in Kingston, ON, hosted by the Slimmed Down Records crew on Nov 14th, 2024. It was one of those nights where the booth, the crowd, and the music all felt in sync — a reminder of why I fell in love with this culture in the first place.

I was nervous walking into the club — it was my first time playing a “proper” venue. I had the opening slot, arguably the toughest role a DJ can ask for: setting the tone for the night, with only a handful of sober people in the room to catch every mistake. But I didn’t care. I was beyond excited just to be there. The second I plugged in my USB and heard sound come through the system, my nerves melted away. From that point, I was able to enjoy every minute.

Musically, this set was about warming up the room and telling a story:

I opened with deeper grooves, drawing from afrohouse and amapiano influences (Move – Adam Port, Beso – Wakyin) to slowly build the energy.

From there, I slipped in a playful nod to the past with disco and funk-driven classics (Groovin – Flamingosis, Grease is the Word – JFC, Hot Stuff – Bob Musella).

By the second half, the vibe shifted toward a more underground house sound, setting the crowd up for what the night had in store (New Dance – AYYBO, No Boys Allowed – Mochakk).

Revisiting these old sets now is a way to reflect on where I started, and hopefully inspire others to step into dance music — even when the path feels uncertain.

Every set in this series represents a different stage of growth:

Early shows where I was cutting my teeth and finding my sound.

Community-driven nights like this one, where collaboration and connection shaped my artistry.

Later performances that refined my style and laid the foundation for where I am today.

These recordings aren’t just throwbacks — they’re milestones. They chart the evolution of my sound, my storytelling, and my ability to move a room. Sharing them here is my way of documenting the journey, both for myself and for anyone who’s been along for the ride.
