By way of a small "present" for Christmas 2024... this is an "interim mix" of a track from my next "proper" album project. I've been working on the project for some months (on and off), and I'm planning to finish and put it out sometime during 2025.

I wouldn't say that this instrumental piece is that representative of the other tracks I've been working on, but in the current album running-order, I guess you could say it's an "interlude" between the (mostly) songs.

This composition is an "offshoot" of another stop-start composing/recording project of mine, featuring pieces inspired by anime and manga (Japanese animation and graphic-novels), and specifically here, two characters: Suiseiseki and Souseiseki, two of the dolls from the series "Rozen Maiden". In the RM "imaginarium", they are "twin sisters", very close to each other and nicknamed "The Gardeners" for their gift for nurturing living things (and communicating with plants). Their personalities are opposites but complimentary - Suiseiseki (green dress, long hair) is the "feminine" (heart-driven, emotional, caring), whilst Souseiseki (trouser-suit/top-hat, brunette "bob") is the "masculine" (tomboyish, rational, duty-driven) - and the pair have been inseparable throughout the centuries since they were created.

In the piece, Suiseiseki and Souseiseki are represented by the twin electric lead guitars, which call/respond, harmonise and unify throughout (and to an extent, by the interlocking dual acoustic 12-string guitars).

On this recording, I play a 2004 Seagull S12 acoustic 12-string and a 2018 D'Angelico Deluxe Bedford electric, the latter equipped with a Fishman TriplePlay wireless MIDI guitar pickup. I use this to play the software synthesisers: two instances of Cherry Audio Pro Soloist (doubling the lead guitars), and Arturia Solina V (the string-synth "pad").

Trivia: the 12-string guitars were recorded much earlier than the rest of the piece, in the spring of 2023 - in fact, they are from my original 4-track demo. I partly improvised the parts (the 12-string was tuned CGCFAD), and not only am I not certain I could improve on the performances, but I can't actually remember everything that I played, and I would have to sit down and effectively re-learn the two parts from my demo recording! It was easier for me to transfer the 2023 tracks into Logic, and overdub new lead guitar and guitar-synth parts, which I did in early December 2024.
