Today we hear some music from Led Zeppelin playing San Diego, 5/28/73, on a soundboard recording remastered by DADGAD. This show has some towering highs and tumbling low points. 

I play two of the highlights. First is a smokin' Since I've Been Loving You with gorgeous, smooth cooooool jazz piano from Mr. Jones, and Jimmy delivers in spades. Then I play glorious Whole Lotta Love with a trillion medleys, played with abandon and joy, like it's 1971. Some magic here for real.

In the pre-dawn hours of 3 September 2007, Albrecht was shot and killed by his girlfriend's neighbor. After having some drinks with his girlfriend Ryann Rathborne at a Dallas bar, Albrecht became intoxicated. Rathborne drove him to her house, and they both took a dose of Chantix (a drug to break nicotine addiction). A short while later, Albrecht began speaking incoherently, broke a drinking glass on a table, and hit Rathborne several times, something he had never done before. She ran outside, and Albrecht followed. Rathborne re-entered her home and locked the doors behind her. Albrecht yelled and pounded on her front door in an unsuccessful attempt to reenter her house.

At this point, Albrecht went into Rathborne's neighbor's backyard, and he and his wife were awakened by the loud pounding and yelling at their back door. Albrecht was told to stop, but he did not; Rathborne's neighbor then says he fired a "warning shot" through the door. The door was made of thick, opaque glass, and the porch was well lit. The shot hit the 6' 5" Albrecht in the head, and he died at the scene. No charges were filed. The autopsy report indicated Albrecht had a blood alcohol content of 0.29 g/dl (grams/deciliter), more than three times the legal driving limit in Texas of 0.08 g/dl, when he was shot.

People close to Albrecht state that his actions prior to the shooting were atypical, even after having had too much to drink, and that his behavior may have been affected by his use of the prescription drug Chantix, which he was taking to help him stop smoking. 
Addiction expert Dr. Bryon Adinoff considers that the interaction of Chantix with the alcohol he consumed that evening might have been a factor

Hearing the noise, he brought a handgun downstairs, told Albrecht to go away and fired one shot through the shut door, striking Albrecht in the head and killing him.

Now, Will Logg, as he calls himself in campaign materials, is running for Dallas City Council. Logg is one of four five candidates vying for District 9, encompassing Lakewood. He's incredibly unlikely to win, but the fact that he's able to run for public office is a quirk of American gun laws and Texas politics. <<

Tim Maia – Tim Maia (1973)

Bonzo is the star of this show. Led Zeppelin in St. Paul, Minnesota July, 9, 1973 is a top tier NA 1973 show. Jimmy and Jonesy are on fire, but John Bonham is head and shoulders above them this night. He plays stuff I've not heard before, adding complexity to Heartbreaker and ingenuity to No Quarter and, and bombastic fire to Whole Lotta Love. 

The band playing at full tilt reminds one of a cheetah running at top speed in pursuit of prey. Absolute beauty and grace. I must confess, I have covered this show before (Ep. 206) but this recording is a brand new remaster by Dario Romero, and it's totally worth the repeat performance. The only repeated song is No Quarter, and it's totally worth the additional listen.

The trailer for the subject of our new episode refers to "Something beyond comprehension," which also applies to our pod as one of our hosts has never seen this horror classic before. For our Halloween celebration this year, our host Jacob has chosen THE EXORCIST (1973) from director William Friedkin and writer William Peter Blatty! It's a bit daunting tackling a movie that casts a shadow as long as this one, but we had a great time discussing the movie from both the perspective of a first-time viewer and two hosts whose perspectives on the movie may have evolved a bit since they first saw it decades ago. We really hope everyone enjoys this review, but most of all we hope everyone has a very happy Halloween this year.

Jean Michael Jarre - [1973] [FLAC] Les Granges Brulees

La canzone, in inglese, è un Hardcore anni 90 che di qualcuno che si sente giovane nel cuore nonostante sia più vecchio cronologicamente. Ha un tema nostalgico incentrato sul 1973 e sulla cultura disco. Il testo esprime l'idea di avere "21 anni con 30 anni di esperienza" e di voler rivivere lo spirito spensierato della giovinezza.

The 1973 UK tour is not to be slept on. Robert's voice is rough as he, as he always has in winter, the flu. So they cancelled and rescheduled to preserve the treasure that is Robert Plant's voice, right? Nope. He pushed himself as always and did his poor larynx no favors. 

This show is January 14, 1973 at the Empire in Liverpool. The show is a banger as Jimmy is ingenious, Bonzo is frenetic, and Jonesy just is. He stands rooted in the Tao while all around him is chaos. All hail Jonesy. 

I play Dancing Days, a ridiculous Dazed that has notes of Achilles Last Stand as well as some brilliant funk, and a rollicking Ocean, The.

It’s musicals month for November’s theme and hitting up Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber again because it’s time to go to church though we can’t tell what denomination this is. It’s pretty sweaty but there are some baddies hanging around. A little gay, to be expected, but the band is pretty sick. They’re all the band. This is what Nazarenes wish their services were like. It’s two thousand years ago by way of the 1970s in this rock opera retelling of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. We’re jamming to Norman Jewison’s 1973 film adaptation of “JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR” and it stars Ted Neeley (who crushes it) Carl Anderson (who steals the show) and Yvonne Elliman (who can get it). Then you got your Pauls, your Pharisees, your Herods and your Pilates and the timeless tale has never been told like this. We didn’t know this at the time but Yvonne Elliman had some disco hits as well. She also hooked up with Eric Clapton but nobody’s perfect. But anyway…Jesus. He’s just a man, right?
