During the 1980s, I spent a lot of my time riding around the British Rail network, mainly chasing Class 40s and then Class 50s, but also seeing and riding behind a number of other classes. I made a number of tape recordings at the time - many from the front window, some from the platform - using my trusty 'ghetto-blaster' or 'boom box' - and now these recordings can finally be heard :)

Here we have a short medley of Class 20s recorded at Preston & Warrington Bank Quay in October 1986. In the first track, recorded on 15th Oct we hear 20004 and 20132 passing through Preston station on a P.W. train - this is followed by 20113 and 20141 on the same day, also at Preston passing through L.D. (with AC electric in the background), and in the final track, 20305 and 20214 accelerate off at Warrington Bank Quay on 26th Sep.

228 Class 20 locomotives were built by English Electric between 1957 and 1968, and amazingly some can still be found in use on the rail network in the 2020s!
