British-Australian jazz vocalist Hetty Kate begins "Jazz in Four Seasons," an ambitious four-album series: four albums, four seasons, four cities. 

The first volume, "Spring" was recorded in Prague with four of the city's finest jazz musicians, blending timeless standards from Ellington to Brubeck with the distinctive voice of Czech artistry. 

For this debut single, Hetty chose Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved "It Might As Well Be Spring", a song rich with delicious irony. In the original 1945 film State Fair, the song is sung in winter by a character yearning for spring's arrival, feeling "as restless as a willow in a windstorm" despite the season. Now, decades later, Hetty releases this ode to spring as Northern Hemisphere audiences prepare for winter's embrace, while her native Southern Hemisphere welcomes the season itself. This temporal paradox perfectly captures the nomadic spirit of Hetty's project. 

The song's inherent restlessness, that jumpy, anticipatory energy, transcends hemispheres and calendars, speaking to anyone caught between seasons, between places, between moments of transformation.

Hetty's interpretation, arranged in an unconventional meter, honors the standard's enduring charm while revealing fresh dimensions. Accompanied by four of Prague's most accomplished jazz musicians, this first single from "Jazz in Four Seasons: Spring, Vol. 1" invites listeners to accompany her on a multi-year musical odyssey across the changing seasons.

Recently relocating to Paris, Hetty is often credited with an ‘effortless’ vocal style. One of Australia’s busiest jazz vocalists, Hetty sings with her own bands as well as touring with Australian jazz legend James Morrison for over four years. 

In the last decade she has toured in Asia, Europe and North America and joined the Melbourne, Tasmanian, Hong Kong, Auckland, Christchurch and Sydney Symphony Orchestras for James Morrison’s popular show ‘The A to Z of Jazz’. Personal highlights include performing at the Sydney Opera House and joining the Amazing Keystone Big Band (FR) for their West Side Story concert, as Maria.

Equally at home delivering a poetic ballad as fronting a hot swing band, Hetty’s lyrical delivery, natural sound and impeccable timing truly set her apart from her contemporaries.
