Station Rose/STR was founded in Vienna, Austria, in 1988 by composer Gary Danner and artist Elisa Rose as an open multimedia lab, after Rose and Danner had graduated from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. 
As one of the first artist-groups worldwide, Station Rose had used the possibilities of interactive media and especially of the internet in their work. Live AV-performances and lectures in art galleries, universities and museums are equally important as performances at media festivals and in the clubscene.
On from the beginning the activities of STR spanned from art production,  DVD-, CD-, CD ROM- and vinyl productions, research on Virtual Realities (in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research), to lectures and performing in the underground, museums, galleries and the internet <www.stationrose.com>. Equipped with computer, scanner and sampler, and funded by a post-graduate grant, STR was doing field-research in Cairo/Egypt in 1988/89. 
At the end of the eighties, STR started their Gunafa Clubbings in Vienna and Frankfurt, the first online-clubevents worldwide, playing sounds and visuals in realtime. In 1991 they moved to Frankfurt, and went online at the same time. 

2002-2004 Elisa Rose and Gary Danner shared a professorship (Media Production) at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt.

2002-2006 they had a regular TV show at hr-fernsehen/ARD Digital called "Best of Webcasting. 

In 2008 STR celebrated their 20th birthday with the AV media sculpture "LogInCabin" at MAK Vienna and the release of the book "20 Digital Years plus".


Station Rose has released on Gunafa, Sony Music, ZYX Music, Mille Plateaux, Eternity, edition selene, International Deejay Gigolo Records, Crippled Dick Hot Wax, Third Ear, Hatje Cantz, Verlag für moderne Kunst Nürnberg, comfortzone.

Station Rose audio visual performances have been performed at (selection):
Cyberthon/San Francisco, Ars Electronica, MAK Vienna, Steirischer Herbst, Mousonturm/Frankfurt, Batofar/Paris, in the Techno-Underground in Germany, Transmediale/Berlin, Viper/Basel, Goldfinger/Frankfurt, World Wide Video Festival/Amsterdam, ICA/London, Cimatics/Brussels, Blasthaus/San Francisco, furtherfield/London.

Gary Danner creates Station Rose´s music. He started his career in Vienna in the late seventies, being a prolific member of Vienna´s punk scene with his band The Vogue. They had an Austrian top ten hit in 1980 with "The Frozen Seas of Io". In 1985 Danner acquired a sampling keyboard, and started producing electronic music on from then, which „puts Techno in a sliding scale of forms and responses“ (The WIRE).

We are a small group of artists dedicated to creating music with unique lyrics. Our inspiration comes from the works of Dr. Med. Ryke Geerd Hamer and his discovery of "Germanische Heilkunde." His important books are available in multiple languages: www.amici-di-dirk.com.
