A breakup song. You know the end is near - it's uncomfortably palpable and you've decided you're ready to move on. You've mentally prepared yourself, but haven't pulled the plug yet and are waiting for the right moment to end things. Suddenly, the tables are turned and your partner breaks up with you and you're filled with regret and longing. It's a curiously unexpected and emotionally disruptive sensation. You tell yourself this is what you wanted, yet you find yourself heartbroken and questioning.

Over Soon

Written, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by myself in my bedroom - the song is about first encounters with sexuality, lustful hormonal rushes, and desire. It's my attempt to encapsulate the feeling of anxious, nervous passion that accompanies the inexperience of first sexual embrace. "Both scared to start, both scared to stop - so let's not stop."

What Happens In The Dark

Short story to accompany this tune:

In an old room, with its walls decked in wood paneling and a bulky computer taking center stage on the desk, a man was engaged in the routine task of updating a dictionary. The screen flickered with a Matrix-like greenish tones, a stark contrast to the drab surroundings. His job was straightforward: sift through a list of words, decide their fate in the dictionary.

The word “home” popped up on the screen, plain yet powerful. It wasn’t just a string of letters to him; it reminded him of his family’s old house, the one with the peeling paint and the porch swing that creaked like an old record. It was a simple memory, nothing extraordinary, but it was tinged with the warmth of home-cooked meals and the comfort of his childhood bed.

He shook off the nostalgia and got back to work, but the words on the screen danced before his eyes, each one a pendulum swinging between now and then. The clack of the keyboard started to sound like a disjointed metronome, erratic and unpredictable. One moment he was here, in the present, the next he was plunged into a memory by a word as simple as “rain.” It reminded him of childhood puddles, then in a flash, he was back, staring at the screen. The transitions grew more abrupt, the past and present colliding and jostling for space in his mind. The mundane task became a wild ride, each word a catalyst for a memory that refused to stay put, each keystroke a leap through time.

As the night approached morning, the man’s battle with the oscillating words reached its crescendo. The memories, once a trickle, now surged like a torrent, overwhelming his senses. In a final act of defiance against the relentless tide of the past, he pressed ‘Enter’ submitting the last word. The screen blinked once, accepting his work, and then went dark. He realized that this mission of his had irrevocably changed him. He was now a living, breathing dictionary himself.

Vanhassa puupaneeliseinäisessä huoneessa oli laatikkomainen tietokone pöydällä. Mies oli uppoutunut sanakirjan luomiseen. Näyttö välkkyi Matrixinsävyisistä vihertävistä valoista, jotka kontrastoivat ankeantylsää huonetilaa. Hänen työnsä oli suoraviivaista: käydä läpi sanojen lista, päättää niiden kohtalo sanakirjassa.

Se oli yksinkertainen muisto, ei mitenkään erityinen, mutta hän pystyi melkein aistimaan kotiruoan tuoksun ja kesäpäivän lämmittämän, hieman tunkkaisenkin huushollin.

Hän ravisti nostalgian pois ja palasi töihin, mutta sanat näytöllä tanssivat hänen silmiensä edessä, jokainen niistä kuin heiluriliike menneisyyden ja nykyisyyden välillä. Arkisesta tehtävästä tuli kaaoottinen matka, jokainen sana katalyyttina muistolle, joka ei suostunut pysymään aloillaan, jokainen sana aikahyppynä.

Yön lähestyessä aamua, miehen taistelu sanojen kanssa saavutti huippunsa. Muistot, jotka olivat aluksi vain kevyttä tihkusadetta, vyöryivät nyt päälle kuin valtava tulva. Viimeisessä uhmakkaassa teossaan menneisyyden lakkaamattomia aaltoja vastaan hän painoi ‘Enter’-näppäintä, kirjoittaen viimeisen sanan. Näyttö välähti kerran, hyväksyen hänen työnsä, ja sitten pimeni. Hän ymmärsi, että tehtävä oli muuttanut häntä peruuttamattomasti. Hän oli nyt elävä, hengittävä sanakirja itse.
