Anxiety - 80's Funk inspired track

In 1980, Billy Noknees had an unexpected revelation when he attended a Manowar concert. The sheer intensity of the band’s performance sparked something within him, and he immediately decided to pivot his musical direction. Determined to create his own “true metal anthem,” Billy went straight into the studio and began work on Warriors of the Iron Throne. However, true to his disco roots, the song’s music remained more dancefloor-ready than battle-ready, with a thumping bassline and synth flourishes that felt more Saturday Night Fever than sword-and-sorcery.

The lyrics, however, took a drastic shift from his usual fare. With lines about slaying “false metal” and claiming the Iron Throne in the name of “true warriors,” Billy fully embraced his metal-inspired vision—even if the music didn’t match. The session was overseen by producer Ron “Iron Fist” Steele, a hard-nosed industry veteran with a soft spot for both disco and metal. But despite their shared interests, tensions quickly flared when Billy, mid-session, challenged Ron’s loyalty to “true metal.” The two got into a heated argument over who was the most authentic metalhead, each claiming to have the most “true” understanding of what it meant to be a metal warrior.

Billy, fueled by his newfound love for all things metal, refused to compromise on the track, and Ron, exasperated by the sheer absurdity of a disco-metal fusion, finally walked out of the session. Undeterred, Billy finished the track on his own, layering heavy lyrics over funky bass riffs and glittering synth lines.

Warriors of the Iron Throne was ultimately pressed as a limited 12" vinyl but was quietly shelved when it failed to resonate with either metalheads or disco fans. However, the track became a cult classic among those who stumbled upon it, intrigued by its audacious genre-blending and Billy’s heartfelt but misplaced dedication to metal.

The song was thought lost for years, until a single copy surfaced in 2003 in a dusty corner of an old record store in Leeds, still sealed in its original sleeve—a dramatic, fantasy-inspired illustration of Billy, Mic in hand, in a cape.

Now, remastered with the magic of AI, Warriors of the Iron Throne is finally ready to reclaim its place in OBIISSS lore, a strange but sincere attempt at metal-disco fusion that only Billy Noknees could dream up. I know things got a bit confusing for those of you paying attention to the daily Interbay posted tracks (this is the 301st track posted in 301 days!) due to one of the tracks being taken down and then, after a dispute, returned to the page (that would be the rockin' tune "Novelty"--check it out if you haven't--though it is official the 300th Interbay SoundCloud Exclusive, it's being backdated to the day it was originally supposed to be dropped--BUT, I think we're back on track...and it's time to "Level Up!"  

The first time I ever saw an IMAX movie was at Great America in Gurnee, Illinois--I think it was a school trip, of all things.  The movie that they showed was "To Fly"...and it showed in a purpose-built IMAX theater in the theme park, not like the IMAX-ish screens they may have at the multiplex.  The screen must have been six stories tall and nearly as wide--it stretched way over our heads and it went on down beneath the floor.  We were expecting something amazing.  

...and then, "To Fly" starts out...and it is some credits in a small part of this huge screen...and then, we see blue skies--but only in a compatively small square in the middle of this gigantic screen.   Everyone, myself included, felt the disappointment...that we'd been promised something grand and it was so anti-climactic.  The opening scene is set in the 1830s, and a man is about to set off in a hot air balloon and the locals had come out to watch.  (The sound, was incredible--great use of the full stereo spectrum.)  

...but as the balloon lifts off the ground and the balloonist yells to the locals below, "It is magnificent, I wish you could ALL see what I see," the  image suddenly spreads across the entire screen...and all of that disappointment turned into pure joy and astonishment.  

While not so grandiose or at all astonishing, I was going for a similar reaction with the beginning of "Level Up!"  What starts off sounding like a rather thin recording of an 80s style funky pop tune heard on a badly tuned radio suddenly opens up to a rich and full sized version of the song.  (I guess what I'm doing is warning you--don't adjust your volume right away or you'll blast your ears off!)  

This may be the poppiest of all of the mutant pop produced under the Interbay name.  The tempo isn't as frantic as others, the 808s are not only dropping the beat on the one but pushing sub frequencies to challenge your speakers.  The song has some solid male pop soul vocals...and there's a breakdown rap about 3/4ths of the way through.  

The song also has some acoustic guitar, some funky analog synths, some very 80s digital fm bell synths, some B-3 organ, some dark and echoey strings, finger snaps, and plenty of use of the full stereo spectrum.  

It's pop, with a definite 80s vibe...some concessions to hip hop, slow electro, and classic synth funk.  Or what I'm going to say is what we would call pop.  (But, being Interbay...it's a mutated sort of pop.)  

If you love Interbay's uptempo stuff--be it electronic dance music or post-punk rock, this might seem like a big change--but Interbay is a big tent and pretty much every sound or style could someday fit underneath it.
