A meditation on the chant of the day for October 14, 2025, Beatus Servus is written for SATB voicing with divisi up to eight parts. Written for the Jesse Kaiser Ensemble based in Columbia, South Carolina.

Beatus Servus (2025)

A raw, one-take a cappella performance where the voice is both drummer and drumline baritone scat syllables (“pa / ba / rum”) snapping a steady groove while the lyric wrestles with being seen beyond the familiar. No reverb, no polish, just a dry, percussive vocal texture that lives somewhere between alt-R&B and soul poetry.

The hook “You love what you know, but you don’t know me” lands like a thesis statement. Verses sketch moonlit intimacy and blurred reflections; the pre-chorus asks for deeper sight; the chorus opens the frame into a full “symphony” of self. Built for headphones and late-night scrolls, and perfect for remixers who like turning human rhythm into instruments.

For fans of minimalist, vocal-only cuts with groove-first phrasing and a mellow, mid-tempo pulse.
