I fjortende episode i podcastserien om 'Det tunge stedbarn' er vi nået til det første år i det store gennembrudsårti for heavy metal. Hvor "heavy metal" blev et kendt musik-begreb, og hvor metal-musikken blev hårdere og tungere, men også pænere og mere poppet. Jens ‘Jam’ Rasmussen og hans gæster, anmelder og forfatter Steffen Jungersen, og Michael Stützer Hansen, bl.a. radiovært og guitarist i metalbandet Artillery fortæller.

I første afsnit af podcastserien "Det tunge stedbarn: Heavy metal genren i 80'erne" brager det løs med etablerede navne i nye former (Black Sabbath med Dio, Ozzy solo, AC/DC med Brian Johnson), de helt nye headbanger-bands (Iron Maiden, Saxon, danske Brats), og Judas Priest, der indrammede den tunge tidsånd med "British Steel".

Studievært er Jens "Jam" Rasmussen, og som studiegæster har vi fortsat den sublime ekspert-duo, Steffen Jungersen og Michael Stützer Hansen, der også var med i vores forløber "Det tunge stedbarn: Heavy metal-genrens fødsel".

Desuden kan vi byde hjerteligt velkommen til vores nye gæsteekspert, guitarist og komponist Michael Denner (Brats, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond m.fl.).

1980 i nedslagspunkter:

- Black Sabbath kommer fornemt videre uden Ozzy Osbourne, og Ozzy kommer overbevisende videre uden Black Sabbath.

- Vi går i dybden med deres overrumplende 1980-værker, Black Sabbath med Dio: "Heaven and Hell" og Ozzy Osbourne: "Blizzard of Ozz".

- Årets tragiske dødsfald: AC/DC-sanger Bon Scott (1946-1980) og Led Zeppelin-trommeslager John Bonham (1948-1980).

- AC/DC hyrer den nye sanger i Brian Johnson ind, og laver tidernes hard rock-mastodont. "Back in Black", mens Led Zeppelin går i opløsning.

- Vi kommer også omkring årets bevægelser fra blandt andre Whitesnake, KISS, Def Leppard, Thin Lizzy, The Scorpions, Van Halen, Motörhead... og de seje kvinder på heavy banen: Joan Jett, Heart og Girlschool.

- 21-årige Steffen Jungersen er på pilgrimsfærd i det heavy metal-bølgende London, hvor han bl.a. oplever Iron Maiden, Saxon og Judas Priest på få dage.

- Jungersen og Stützer kommenteret årets udspil fra de tre ovennævnte bands: "Iron Maiden", "Wheels of Steel", "Strong Arm of the Law" og årets store heavy metal-statement "British Steel".

- Guitarist Michael Denner fortæller om Brats' bevægelse fra punk til heavy metal på debut albummet "1980", og om mødet med sangeren Kim Bendix Petersen alias King Diamond fra bandet Black Rose.

- Den 16-årige Lars Ulrich flytter til Californien, hvor han begynder at spille trommer til idolerne Diamond Head, hvis 1980-album "Lightning to the Nations" bliver hans store inspirationskilde og pejlemærke.

Let’s not mince words here. Trump is the embodiment of corruption, greed, and incompetence. He’s a man who has spent his entire life looking out for himself, exploiting others, and leaving chaos in his wake. As De Niro so eloquently put it: *“He’s a dog. He’s a pig. He’s a con. He’s a bullsh*t artist. He’s a mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”* This isn’t just about politics—it’s about morality. It’s about standing up to a man who has no respect for the rule of law, no respect for the truth, and no respect for the American people.  

Trump’s presidency was a disaster. He divided the country, emboldened hate, and failed to deliver on his promises. He’s a man who thrives on chaos, who lies with every breath, and who cares only about his own ego. As De Niro said: *“He’s a punk, he’s a dog, he’s a mutt. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s an idiot. He’s a fool.”* And yet, here we are, facing the possibility of him returning to power. We cannot let that happen. We cannot allow this man to continue to poison our democracy.  

This is not just about Trump—it’s about the people who enable him. The sycophants, the cowards, and the opportunists who stand by his side and allow his corruption to flourish. They are just as guilty as he is. As De Niro said: *“They’re all scum. They’re all mutts. They don’t know what they’re talking about.”* We need to hold them accountable. We need to stand up and fight back.  

The stakes are too high to sit on the sidelines. This is about the soul of our nation. It’s about protecting our democracy, our values, and our future. We cannot afford to let Trump and his enablers win. We must vote, we must organize, and we must make our voices heard. As De Niro said: *“We’re gonna fight back. We’re gonna fight back with everything we’ve got.”*  

So let’s do this. Let’s come together and defeat Trump once and for all. Let’s show the world that we are better than this. That we will not tolerate corruption, lies, and hate. That we will stand up for what’s right. As De Niro said: *“We’re gonna win. We’re gonna win because we have to.”*  

This is our moment. This is our fight. Let’s get to work.

1981 // POVCAST – I 1981 skyllede bølgen videre fra den engelske New Wave of British Heavy Metal, og bands som Iron Maiden, Samson, Saxon, Def Leppard og Tygers of Pan Tang.  Der var også fuld gang i de britiske frontløbere Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne og Motörhead. Jens ‘Jam’ Rasmussen og hans gæster, anmelder og forfatter Steffen Jungersen og Michael Stützer Hansen, bl.a. radiovært og guitarist i metalbandet Artillery, og musiker med meget mere, Michael Denner, fortæller.

Motörhead havde endda besøg af danske Lars Ulrich i deres øvelokale. Et par måneder senere havde Ulrich selv sin første Metallica-øver med James Hetfield ovre i LA.  I Danmark stillede Brats knivskarpt på metallen og blev til Mercyful Fate.

Der var megen anden hård rock i 1981, så tag med os tilbage til dette mægtige metal-år sammen med vores faste, tunge hold: Jens "Jam" Rasmussen, studievært, og de tre kompetente studiegæster, journalist Steffen Jungersen og d’herrer guitarister Michael Stützer Hansen og Michael Denner.

1981 i nedslagspunkter

-  The New Wave of British Heavy Metal skyller videre, og i forskellige retninger: Iron Maiden udgiver monsterværket Killers, Samson byder på den kommende Maiden-sanger Bruce Dickinson, og Saxon hylder heavy metal-kulturen på Denim and Leather. Def Leppard laver AC/DC-partyrock på High N’ Dry og Tygers of Pan Tang laver fed riff-metalrock på begge deres 1981-album.

- Danske Lars Ulrich er flyttet til Californien for at forfølge sin tenniskarriere, men tager lige på en metallisk dannelsesrejse til England i sommeren 1981, hvor han blandt andet er til festival med Ozzy Osbourne og Motörhead, som han også besøger i deres øvelokale.

- Opildnet af dannelsesrejsen beslutter Lars Ulrich sig for selv at danne et band. I oktober 1981 har han sin første Metallica-øvesession med guitaristen James Alan Hetfield i Los Angeles, Californien.

- Jungersen og Stützer jubler over Ozzys andet soloalbum Diary of a Madman og Motörheads vaskeægte livealbum No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith.

- Venom debuterer med rå garage metal, diabolsk image og eksplicit satan-retorik.

- Danske Brats skruer bissen på, laver fede heavy metal-demoer, får Michael Denner tilbage i lineuppet, og bliver til… Mercyful Fate. 

- Denner og Stützer fortæller om Mercyful Fates koncertpremiere på Selsmoseskolen i Taastrup, og lidt om anden dansk hård rock anno ‘81: Devil’s Symphony, The Studs, Pretty Maids og Pulze.

- Los Angeles 1981 er andet end stedet for den første Metallica-øver: Joan Jett grovhitter med I Love Rock’n’Roll og Motley Crüe albumdebuterer med hedonistisk hard rock på  Too Fast For Love. I Helsinki albumdebuterer Motley Crües åndsbrødre i Hanoi Rocks.

- Tilbage i LA, aflirer Y&T en stor smule AC/DC og tænder en tidlig glød i Lars Ulrich, mens Van Halen fortsætter rockfesten på deres fjerde album.

- Ritchie Blackmore og Rainbow indspiller nyt album i Sweet Silence med Flemming Rasmussen, hvilket ikke mindst noteres af ovennævnte Ulrich.

- De tidligere Deep Purple-sangere, David Coverdale (i Whitesnake) og Ian Gillan (i eget band) er fortsat produktive. Sidstnævnte udgiver endda hele to album i 1981. 

- Jungersen genintroduceres i studiet til tonerne af Accepts Son of A Bitch, men lever fint med det.

- Vi afrunder med årets album fra Black Sabbath, Judas Priest og AC/DC, som alle tre havde noget at leve op til fra året før.

In this song the "How many" questions are a bit more desolate though: the son living in a gaming chair, the wife always searching for her antidepressants and the "me" person in the basement checking if the rope will hold. Former member of German bands: In Rags (with Sami Yli-Sirniö and Roman Keymer), Sharkpool and Dutch bands Garbitsjkeng, The Wit, Trio van Putten and and a few others. I baptized my Alter Ego and named him "Pot Barley".

Henry, born in Haarlem the Netherlands, moves to Heerhugowaard at a young age and hears all kinds of music at home. Classic, pop, rock, jazz, gospel, easy listening. Dire Straits and Rory Gallagher, among others, are very popular with the music of his brothers. In the house there is usually somewhere a ukulele or a cheap guitar from the Wehkamp. The stringed instrument accompanies him from an early age and with some self-study he tries to play along. From 1981 the New wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) has been rolling firmly into his life. During the eighties he can be found at a lot of rock and metal concerts in his country. At the age of 15, Henry buys his first electric guitar with his father. 
Henry makes his first appearance on stage in the hard rock band Jack-A-Dandy from Heerhugowaard (late 80s / early 90s) and played at various locations in North Holland and as support act for Jewel, among others. They played their own songs but also covers of ZZ Top and Queen. During that period he also took guitar lessons from several people. With the focus on the electric guitar. Jack-A-Dandy quits after a few years and after two gigs with occasional band Fuzzle as part of Waardse Glorie, it becomes quiet on stage for Henry. From 1993 and he delves more into classical guitar and flamenco music . The love for music remains. 
After a long silence, he joined the poprockbluescoverband Flashback from Zaandam at the end of 2017 and played there for more than 2 years. Since the beginning of 2020, Henry has joined Blue Flame to focus more on blues and rock music. 
In January of 2021, inspiration and the spirit fill him with new creative ideas. With the purchase of a new desktop and, among other things, the software program EZ drummer 2, there are now possibilities to work things out at home.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to listen.  
My name is Johnny, a lifelong musician and songwriter whose work is deeply rooted in the pursuit of justice, equality, and meaningful change. For as long as I can remember, music has been my voice, my weapon, and my sanctuary—a way to channel the frustrations, hopes, and dreams of a world in turmoil.  

My songs are a reflection of the turbulent times in which we live. They are anthems for the marginalized, the oppressed, and the forgotten—those who bear the weight of systemic inequality, poverty, and injustice. Through my music, I aim to amplify the voices of minorities, the poor, the sick, and the downtrodden, shining a light on the struggles they endure in a society that often turns a blind eye.  

At the heart of my work is a call to resist the oppressive grip of the billionaire class, whose unchecked power and greed have eroded the foundations of our democracy. My lyrics are a rallying cry, urging listeners to awaken to the realities of our world, to challenge the status quo, and to fight for a future where equity and justice are not just ideals, but realities.  

But my music is not just a critique of what is wrong—it is also a beacon of hope. I strive to inspire others to join the fight, to look in the mirror and confront the uncomfortable truths of our nation’s bloody history. Only by acknowledging the past can we begin to heal and move forward. My songs are a tribute to the dreamers and the activists who came before us, and a call to carry their torch into the future.  

Above all, I seek to honor the vision of John Lennon and countless others who dared to imagine a world of peace, love, and unity. Through my music, I hope to contribute to that vision.

Mediano Music beskæftiger sig med alle former for musik. Lige fra folk med 30-40 år livserfaring til helt nye kunstnere, der er på vej frem.

I create for the pure joy of it and I love to include my Wife and Daughter in the music to capture a beautiful moment; a personal time capsule. Music is an expressive outlet for me and I write from the heart.

Close to my heart is raising awareness of the chronically painful genetic connective tissue disorder HEDS (Hyper-Mobility Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) to encourage recognition and a deeper understanding of the condition; that no 2 people with HEDS are identical and live with different symptoms, types and experiences.
