The third section of “Tome of Stars“ is “Sporogenesis“ , a haphazard chronicle of the years 2011–2020.  It marks a shift from the cataclysm of “Senescence“  into a period of withdrawal and emotional hibernation, its eleven sonnets seeking to reflect the padam of the collection’s bharatanatyam-inspired structure. Drawing its title from the biological process of spore formation, it becomes a metaphor for self-preservation: sealing fragments of love and self against a hostile world. 

“Dance, Stars!” is the first song in every album and is an outlier in “Tome of Stars”. Unlike the other poems, it was not composed through conventional inspiration but assembled from a word-frequency analysis of the manuscript. After completing the first drafts, the poet examined the text with automated tools to uncover unconscious repetitions and verbal ticks. From the ranked list of words, a new challenge suggested itself in the poet's mind: to fashion a poem by following the order of frequency while introducing only minimal grammatical adjustments.

In the classical margam of bharatanatyam, the varnam is the recital’s centerpiece, its longest and most emotionally charged performance. In “Tome of Stars", the varnam appears as the twenty-nine-poem section “Senescence”. Following the exaltation of Anthesis, the beloved as a celestial goddess, love now descends from the stars into the gravity of human frailty. 

“Dance, Stars!” is the first song in every album and is an outlier in “Tome of Stars”. Unlike the other poems, it was not composed through conventional inspiration but assembled from a word-frequency analysis of the manuscript. After completing the first drafts, the poet examined the text with automated tools to uncover unconscious repetitions and verbal ticks. From the ranked list of words, a new challenge suggested itself in the poet's mind: to fashion a poem by following the order of frequency while introducing only minimal grammatical adjustments.

What began as an artistic experiment under these constraints produced a poem that surprised even its creator. Despite its eccentric genesis, “Dance, Stars!” seemed to capture the essence of the collection in a compressed and distorted form, serving as a mirror and a parody of its language. The poet therefore placed it at the threshold of the book, as an Epigraph, where it functions as a playful yet telling distillation of themes that the subsequent sonnets will explore.

“Pro Logos Asteron” (“before the word of the stars”) serves as a preludial description (a metacommentary on “Tome of Stars”) and a meditation on celestial realms as metaphors for human creativity, relationships, and the transient nature of life in relation to the relative permanence of the cosmos. The central metaphor is a star as a poem, each sun a glowing glyph graphed by some ancient force of astrometaphysics, mirrored in the books pages.

“Ainulindalë” traces how the beloved came to inhabit Tolkien’s legendarium in the poet's mind (his primary mythological framework developed in his youth), specifically tying her to the figure of Varda, Queen of the Stars. 

Raised in a secular home without religious myth or doctrine, he instead absorbed Tolkien’s cosmogony with spirited enthusiasm. Those tales expanded to fill whatever subconscious human needs he had for mythology (and they were more beautiful and awe inspiring to his tastes than those handed down by classical religions). Combined with a life-long love of astronomy and cosmology, his formative narratives and images centered around an odd combination of scientific naturalism (inspired especially by the heavens) and a literary mythos from Tolkien’s writings.  When the Stargirl entered his life, he found that his beloved’s name (a Hindu astrological term for a star system) resonated with this personal mythological structure. 

The poem begins with a celebration of Tolkien’s musical story of creation. Music is the metaphor of creation in the universe of Tolkien’s cosmogenesis. “Ainulindalë” means “The Music of the Ainur,” and is a chapter in “The Silmarillion” (Tolkien's great mythic book) presenting an account of this musical creation by the angelic powers (the Ainur, who, when they came into incarnate creation, were called by the Elves the Valor, or Powers). 

Altogether, this sonnet explores how personal interests in music, astronomy, and the mythic architecture of Tolkien’s legends interwove with the conceptual and emotional space created by the poet’s beloved. This is most strongly realized in the figure of Varda, a transcendent figure in the legendarium especially connected to the stars and with whom his beloved was identified in his imagination.

This mix was inspired by DJ Twitche's Beatless Rave from Watching Trees Festival 2024, which I first heard at Making Time festival in 2025 during his memorial listening session. I'm attempting to capture the ritualistic nature of burns, sampling elements from dance music history, and featuring acappellas that are thoughtful and reflective.

Performed by the Vancouver Chamber Choir, and Whitehorse Community Choir (Alluvia Singers), October 19 in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada.

A circuit bent t.racks TFX1016 effects unit absolutely demolishes an acappella of Umbrella by Rihanna. 
Mods include a system reclocking knob and a RAM loop switch that locks and loops the contents of the fragmented RAM and loops it from start to end in a deeply bizarre manner. 

The t.racks TFX-1016 is suspiciously similar to the Alesis Nanoverb 1... 
At a guess we'd say its running the Nanoverb 1 firmware on more modern hardware. Are Alesis aware of this? Who knows, but there are a few dubious Chinese FX units available that seem to be running 1990's Alesis firmware...
