I asked Mike to help me understand the request for comments put out by the US copyright office about Artificial Intelligence. We unpack AI copyright law and discuss who owns ai art. We talk about the relevant history of Copyright including photography and the case of Naruto's baboon selfie and The current state of copyright as it pertains to AI images.

What if you could have a conversation with Salvador Dalí? Now you can…with the A.I. version of Dalí!

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Surrealism, we have a special Creativity Squared episode for you today with none other than the legendary Surrealist artist, Salvador Dalí…or rather, the A.I.-reimagined Dalí! The artist famously wrote, “If someday I may die, though it is unlikely, I hope the people in the cafes will say, ‘Dalí has died, but not entirely.’” 
 
The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida is one of the most innovative museums in the world. Today, the museum is unveiling its latest project bringing Salvador Dalí back to life through artificial intelligence called “Ask Dalí.” This custom-built chatbot is trained on Dalí’s writings and voice so museumgoers can interact directly with the artist through a Surrealist lobster telephone. 

To add color and context to this conversation, we also have Martin Pagh Ludvigsen joining us. Martin was on a SXSW panel called, “Salvador Dalí, AI, and The Future of Creativity.” “Ask Dalí” was demoed on stage where host Helen Todd asked if Dalí would be a guest on Creativity Squared!  
 
Martin is a Creative Technologist, A.I. Director, and head of Labs at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. Originally from Denmark, Martin holds degrees in Computer Science and Theater Science, where his creative journey started by moving his body on stages and then by moving pixels on screens. Martin uses cutting-edge tech to tell stories for brands and has directed award-winning work globally. Like many others, Martin likes to tinker and break things. But unlike most, he also likes putting them back together in new and unexpected ways.
 
The Dalí Museum is a client of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, and Martin was instrumental in bringing “Ask Dalí” to life. You’ll learn more about this project and the museum’s other groundbreaking work using VR, synthetic media, and OpenAI’s DALL-E in their exhibitions. And yes, you’ll also get to hear Dalí answer questions at the intersection of A.I. and creativity on today’s show, including the one “he” recommended on stage at SXSW.

Yemi A.D. (Yemi Akinyemi Dele) is a multidisciplinary creative force dedicated to helping people unlock their creative potential. He’s also preparing for his biggest mission yet: a trip around the Moon!  

As a Czech-Nigerian artist, entrepreneur, and crew member of the dearMoon mission, Yemi exemplifies a pioneering spirit and profound passion for social innovation and youth empowerment. 

Yemi is the Founder & CEO of Moonshot Platform, an organization dedicated to accelerating young leaders working towards solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals. His 20 years of experience across the industries of entertainment, arts, and technology includes collaborating with Grammy Award-winning artist Kanye West for five years to create and execute his global concerts, tours, and music videos. Yemi also works with brands like Google, Apple, Coca-Cola, and T-Mobile, and speaks on stages like TEDx, Texas Eclipse Festival, and SXSW on the future of creativity and space exploration. 

As a choreographer, Yemi was chosen from among 1 million candidates to be a crew member of dearMoon, marking the first all-civilian space trip around the Moon. He’s one of the eight artists chosen to join Japanese entrepreneur and art collector Yusaku Maezawa, who believes art has the power to promote world peace.      

Yemi’s love of movement and finding freedom in movement are intertwined into all aspects of his life, which you’ll hear in the conversation.

In this episode, listen to Yemi's incredible journey from growing up as the only Black child where he was raised in Czechoslovakia to his rise as a creative powerhouse and to traveling into space. We also dive into how Yemi's studies of indigenous cultures worldwide gave him insight into the intelligence of movement. He also shares the importance of representation in the tech industry to ensure a more inclusive and human-centered approach to A.I. and robotics — the humanoid robot Apollo was trained on his dance videos!

Scrape Me? Protect, Monetize & Optimize Content for AI Chatbots with Jon Accarrino & Pete Blackshaw

Q: Who Would Envy You? 
A: Bruce Springsteen 

Last month, I had coffee with my friend Gareth Higgins at Recess Coffee in Black Mountain, North Carolina. As we settled in, I mentioned I’d been exploring ChatGPT. Gareth smiled and said, “Let me show you something ChatGPT can do that’ll surprise you.”

Then he leaned into his phone and dictated: List 10 notable writers or poets who would be envious of James Navé and explain why.

If you’ve ever used ChatGPT, you know what happened next—within seconds, it generated the list along with a paragraph for each one. 

While a few responses were predictable, the overall experience was oddly fascinating. It got me thinking about the lens of self-worth, creative admiration, and the power of imaginative comparison.

Yesterday, I tried Gareth’s idea out as a prompt during our Thursday Imaginative Storm Zoom workshops. List 5 to 10 people you admire. Then, write for 10 minutes about why they would envy you. Give it a spin. 

I chose Bruce Springsteen. Here’s what I wrote.

Bruce Springsteen, you envy me because I can be invisible whenever and wherever I want, wherever I go, walking through the promised land across the Rainbow Bridge. 

Bruce, I like the way you look straight out. You envy me because I can see the edges. I dwell in the fall from grace as much as the rise from grace. I'm not troubled with old sheep wandering in dry pastures. 

I have a voice that calls my mama from the grave. No, I'm no karmic child, nor am I a fleeting-moments Buddhist. I am oil and dusty windows. 

Bruce, you envy me because unlike you, I'm from the rugged south, down in the heartland where rocks have accents and children grow up to sing in Nashville. 

Bruce, you are from New Jersey—Land of steel, forest, factories, and “made-men” on corners in Jersey City. I am a creature of things that crawl in old gold heat. I know the runners that pull the cargo up the inland waterway and fly twin-engine planes out of Cuba, or they used to. 

Bruce, I know you know people, too. Do I envy you? Sure, I envy you. I've heard you weep over your piano. You envy me because nobody expects me to weep over my piano. Those who know me expect me to rise up like magic wind. 

Bruce, you envy me because I can talk to age, and time, and the coming years. I belong to the invisible Bruce. I can call up sometime, anytime I want. You can call me sometime, too.
