Chip was a soldier who fought in the First Animal War, he was a killing machine. After the war ended, Chip was left with TEPT, also known as PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Anything that reminds him of the war, he freaks out, thinking he is at war, and starts killing everyone around him, thinking they are his enemies.

I don't even need to say that he is an inspiration for Flippy, from Happy Tree Friends.
