In 2023, I spent some time living above the Arctic Circle off the northern coast of Norway. Living in isolation on a island no more then 2km in radius, I spend my days collecting field recordings, composing new music, taking photographs, reading and writing. The purpose of the project was to capture images and sounds of the landscape to create a audio/visual experience that transforms the viewer/listener on their own meditative journey inward - 'Solar Image' is the first sonic incantation of a new audio/visual body of work. 

For this track, I have invited Dutch DJ, Producer and a label owner Rambadu to interpret my field recordings and images to create a rework of 'Solar Image' titled 'Solar Image (Rambadu Thermohaline Circulation)' referring to the natural process when sea ice forms in the polar regions, leaving behind salt that makes the surrounding water saltier and denser. This denser water sinks, creating a current that moves slowly through the ocean. Thermohaline circulation (THC) is a large-scale ocean current system that moves water and heat, and is a vital part of the global carbon dioxide and nutrient cycles

"Influenced by the forces of nature, Rambadu celebrates the universal connection between beings and their surroundings. 

In recent years, he has researched the energetic powers and healing properties of sound, diving deep into the literature to better understand our inner and outer worlds.

Singing bowls, percussion, and various acoustic instruments are blended with hardware devices while modulating field recordings to create a sensual dance, taking you further into the sonic realms."

« In taking up the "International Polar Year" (2007/2008) challenge, Dominique Blais recaptured distant echoes of Kircher’s cosmogonic frolics. For several weeks he stayed in a scientific village based on the island of Spitsbergen, part of a remote archipelago far within the Arctic Circle, surrounded by researchers specializing in climatic conditions, biodiversity, glaciers and atmospheric chemistry. In summer, the climate is less hostile and there is permanent daylight,
highly favourable to recordings of the electromagnetic field.
Blending in with the scientists for the occasion, like them Blais went out to gather data—infrathin information on the periphery of barely visible or audible physics, the imperceptible physics that fostered the experimental approaches of Chladni, Ritter and Orsted. Given the data collection conditions, compact portable equipment was a must:
a low frequency radio receiver, for listening to and recording very small wavelengths, as well as transcribing them electronically. On this occasion Blais also joined forces with a cohort less scientific and more capricious in its objectives and methods—small communities, met through social networking sites on the Internet, who are passionate about the world of sound and electromagnetic waves.
These groups come together at forums dedicated to seeking environments conducive to the optimized reception of these subliminal VLF (Very Low Frequency) vibrations. With its lack of interference, the Arctic Circle is one of the most favourable biotopes to this epiphany of the inaudible; it is here that we seek out the auditory equivalent of the Aurora Borealis, those sumptuous streaks of light whose electric particles create a radio signature, in the manner of someone like Orsted when he recorded on those plates the signature of the
electromagnetic field itself. But Dominique Blais is careful to avoid index-linking this signature too much to a visual phenomenon, as if it were a case of better resisting modernism’s opticality. Some spectre of pyrotechnics is indeed apparent in the resultant recording (a crackling sound reminiscent of a fireworks display) but this also refers us more directly to the scrunching sound of vinyl surfaces that recall not only a culture of listening to music but also the apex of
