EP.5 Dieglo Talks Art Basel, Creative Collaborations, Travel, and How To Make It As A Visual Artist

Although the art business world may be on holiday right now, we're still pounding the (international) pavement to bring you a report of the most important and talked-about events in the art world right now. This week, hosts Kate Brown and Ben Davis are joined by Artnet's London correspondent Vivienne Chow for the monthly roundup.
Just two short weeks ago collectors, curators, museum bigwigs, and celebrities arrived in Basel Switzerland for Art Basel's flagship event. Dealers were quick to announce big-ticket sales, but there was an undercurrent of conversation regarding the so-called "doom porn" narrative swirling in the press. As Artnet News's Katya Kazakina has been reporting, the market is in the midst of a major correction.
Beyond the fair, where well-heeled visitors traipsed between the installation of Agnes Denes's iconic Wheat Fields and the beloved cow pastures, there was lots to see. In a recent editorial, host Kate Brown wrote about how social media algorithms are affecting performance art, and the trio discuss this trend in relation to the activations in and around the fair. Finally, the trio discuss the life and legacy of Barbara Gladstone, the highly esteemed art dealer who passed away at age 89.

Here we are again, it’s November and we’re approaching the end of 2024 and I’m already working on the Year Book Mix and the Soundscape edition as well as the December Mix of course. This month I took things more towards the progressive side since October was pretty kicking ass. Starting off the journey with Pete Tong who came up with a beautiful sunrise track ‘Release Me’, a really cool and smooth track from Kaz James’ EP ’Never The Same’, something by Ron Flatter again which has his typical melodic progressive sound ‘Yubi’, Max Graham has returned after almost 5 years or so with a more peak time kind of track ‘Chance To Escape’, Dyzen’s track ‘Try’ has been blessed with a beautiful remix by the always inspiring and brilliant Mano Le Tough, ‘Been There Before’ is a new track by Joris Voorn who joined forces for this one with Pig&Dan, my all time favorite duo Âme went into their studio with EBM legends Curses for a cool, fun track ‘Shadow Of Love’, Corren Cavini who’s probably by now the most appearing artist on the show delivers another progressive trance track called ’Solutions’, Paul van Dyk celebrates the 30th anniversary of probably his most iconic track ‘For An Angel’ with lots of new remixes on a compilation which also has all the originals; I went with the LOUT remix, Andain’s track ’Summer Calling’ got a serious techno make over by BLR, one of the most known Ibiza classics from the early 2000’s ’Solarcoaster’ by trance veteran Solarstone geniusly remixed by Aquarius, Jeremy Olander is receiving massive support at the moment for his double EP ‘Control’ and it comes with his buzzing analog sound, Marsh is back on Anjunadeep with ‘Rabbit Hole’, Kevin De Vries suprises with a interesting blend of classical sound and a pounding psy-trance bassline and to wrap up this mix on a beautiful dreamy note with a track taken from Ben Böhmer’s new atmospheric album ‘Bloom’.

On the 8th of December 2024, during Art Basel week, DJ Schreach hosted his inaugural Bassment Miami event in collaboration with CLUBJERSEY. The show featured some of Florida's finest club DJ's, including "DJ Jam", "Fwea Go Jit", "DJ Kay Dinero" and of course "DJ Schreach". In town was Jersey's finest "DJ Cueheat", as well as visiting from London DC's very own "Tayylor Made" aswell as repping the Ukrainain flag was CLUBJERSEY founder "Arghtee".

Luis Baquero, better known as Bakke, is a Colombian-American DJ and curator whose relationship with music runs deep—rooted in a lifelong obsession with rhythm, synths, and sonic storytelling. Raised in South Florida, his journey began at age 15 after early on being drawn to the rhythmic intricacy and analog warmth of 80s new wave, 90s hip hop and alternative rock. His style was further refined once discovering early 2000s electro and progressive house, ultimately channeling his focus toward the deeper realms of house and techno.

With a signature ability to blend nostalgic textures with forward-thinking tracks, Bakke delivers sets that are as cerebral as they are danceable. His selections are intentional—bridging eras and aesthetics to create immersive narratives on the dance floor. A trusted resident of Miami’s legendary Club Space and a core member of the LinkMiamiRebels collective, you can catch him regularly playing alongside some of the world’s finest djs and producers.

In 2024, Bakke launched his own event series, Bak 2D Future, a concept-driven platform dedicated to the exploration of timeless sounds—past, present, and future. Through this project and beyond, Bakke continues to evolve as a tastemaker and educator, committed to elevating the culture one record at a time.
