Bridget Madrian studied economics at BYU as an undergrad, and after obtaining her Ph.D at MIT, she served on the business school faculty at Harvard, University of Chicago, Wharton and Harvard Kennedy before returning to BYU for her current role.

Sequence Six Presents Existential 102 - LIVE at Academy LA 11/29/2025

It seems like forever since we’ve had Jeff AND Brad on the same episode, hunkered down in a dimly lit bar, discussing entrepreneurship research over cocktails. As such, we’re delighted to have them reunited at long last at Nora’s, an honest-to-goodness speakeasy located a couple flights of stairs beneath downtown Louisville, CO. 	

Joined by guest academic researcher Nan Jia, Brad and Jeff speak with Jordan Leggett, Bar Lead and Mad Scientist at Nora’s. Jordan walks us through a trio of her innovative concoctions as she explains her creative approach to bartending. 

These libations, including a scotch cocktail with pumpkin puree and a tequila-based old-fashioned, are some of the most inventive and delicious creations we’ve encountered on Creative Distillation — and that’s saying something.

The conversation also features a Tiki Time check-in with Jeff, touches on testing new recipes, and asks whether ChatGPT is a good bartender (spoiler: it’s not). Thanks to Jordan at Nora’s for an illuminating — and perfectly dimly lit — discussion.

In this Bell Work Talk, Dr. Ashleigh Bowman will introduce the key components of a business case, including calculating a return on investment (ROI). Forensic nurses should be able to articulate business components of the program and justify program costs for long-term sustainability. This podcast will help listeners begin thinking about the business model for their program to use in discussions with middle and upper administration and leaders.

Ashleigh F. Bowman, DNP, CRNP, CPNP-AC, SANE-A, SANE-P, is an Associate Professor at the University of South Alabama, College of Nursing, and also maintains a faculty practice at USA Health’s Children’s & Women’s Hospital Pediatric Emergency Department in Mobile, AL. She has been a certified acute care pediatric nurse practitioner since 2016 and became a pediatric SANE in 2020. She obtained her DNP in 2018 from the University of South Alabama. 

While Dr. Bowman has focused her clinical career on the care of acute and critically ill pediatric patients since 2012, her research and educational interests are focused on health policy and the intersection of policy impacts on clinical practice. Dr. Bowman is currently the project director for federally-funded grant project centered around pediatric sexual assault.

Entrance exams like rituals, credentials as a creed,  
They filter out the heretics and call it “quality.”  
You learn the sacred jargon, bow to every name,  
Or disappear in footnotes that no one will reclaim.

They’re terrified a madman might slip in and take a seat,  
So they sterilize the air until it’s safe and obsolete.  
They fear one wild equation more than centuries of dust,  
But dead air kills more futures than a single reckless thrust.


Unfreemason, building guilds out of degrees,  
Guarding narrow corridors of sanctioned expertise.  
Unfreemason, terrified of foreign air,  
Boarding up the windows so no new storms can dare.  
You claim you’re keepers of the mind,  
But you exile every thought that refuses to align.



I came with rough ideas, unpolished but alive,  
They weighed my every sentence: “Is this safe for us to hive?”  
“Will you cite the proper masters? Will you kneel to every school?  
Will you prune your wicked questions to fit comfortably in our rules?”  

I spoke of open networks, fields that cross and recombine,  
They answered with a checklist and an underhanded smile.  
“Your pattern doesn’t match here, your angle is too strange,  
We only fund the mirrors that reflect our sacred range.”

Here, the “review” is a ritual, not a search for deeper truth,  
Just a wall of tired elders guarding comfort from new youth.  
They hide behind statistics, yet their models never move,  
A cemetery of journals where the living cannot prove.


Let a madman at the table, let a wild thought misbehave,  
It’s cheaper than a century of polite, well-funded graves.  
You fear the crack of thunder in your carefully tuned halls,  
But silence is the slowest, most efficient guillotine of all.  

You sterilized the chaos, now there’s nothing left to grow,  
A pristine, empty greenhouse where no restless seeds can blow.


Unfreemason, walling off the coming age,  
Binding brilliant novices in citation-heavy chains.  
Unfreemason, so obsessed with keeping “clean,”  
You’d rather kill the question than admit you’ve never seen.  


One mad mind can be dangerous, that much we can agree,  
But a world without new madness is a dead academy.
