Pavement for a bed, but I spit the truth
When it rained, we caught the drops in jars
Turned the storm into music to heal the scars
The fridge was empty, the closet stayed dead
No Jordans, no gold, no fancy brand
Free lunch line was my VIP,
Made jokes about it to feel carefree

Mama worked hard, no timeouts, no break,

This was a story about a boy i knew
He was poor, but refused to show
He hadn’t much, but it was enough
Held his head high when it got rough
His dreams kept him warm in the cold nights
And the fire inside him burned bright
Whispers in his chest start turning to a roar,  
“Being broke ain’t a curse, it’s fuel for more.”
Can’t see the struggle when the grin’s that wide,  
Rich spirit though the wallet’s denied.

with over 15 years experience working in film and television as an editor, director, filmer and composer, Mark Roberts has always been fascinated by sound and vision and how they work in unison. How they can influence one another and seeing the music as well as hearing it is an essential part of the creative process.  Having performed as a bass player for more than a decade and after a move from Greater London to the South Coast of England,  to the vibrant city of Brighton he focused his attention on recording and producing. Spaces, places, landscapes and worldwide travel have all influenced 'VISTAS' from the epic plateaus of northern Argentina echoed in 'Land of Silver' to the cyclical life of 'The River' and finally the uplifting and heart felt 'The Homecoming' concludes the album with strings by Jote Osahn (Cinematic Orchestra, Elbow, Snow Patrol). 
VISTAS draws influences from composers such as John Adams, Nitin Sawhney, Leo Brouwer, Terry Callier, Gustavo Santaolalla and Mark's broad spectrum of musical tastes. With guitars as his main writing tool, Mark uses very simple initial ideas that grow in layers and textures that take the listener to vistas of open spaces.


Superhero/ Sound Manipulator


Flash Atkins is a super hero who had his gravy days in the 80s saving the world with his ability to manipulate sound.  Unfortunately he's fallen on hard times and can be spotted in the less salubrious parts of London, Manchester and West Yorkshire often stoned or drunk on borrowed money and time.

To make ends meet he uses his special powers to remix and make deep disco music for Paper Recordings.

Let’s hope it gets him back on track.
