The shape of this piece emerges gradually, at first several independent micro-sounds appear and are gathered at a slow pace, in order to then become organized and create musical phrases. Through these phrases various polyrhythms emerge which in turn are increased and eventually create a unified sound mass. The energy of this mass creates tension so that it becomes more and more dense until it reaches its peak and release. It will then weaken by gradually, subtracting its density and organization of its individual elements until we reach the end and the initial silence. The evolution of this piece could be explained very simply with the shape of a triangle, although we will see that there are important events within this piece that break its seemingly linear evolution and dramatically affect the listener's anticipation. This piece was awarded with the Residency Prix CIME prize in the Prix CIME 2021 Competition from CIME/ICEM.

Scala

Apex describes the consequences of the human imprint on the acoustic environment in which we live. The continuous search for a modern lifestyle and the continuous technological development have significantly affected the soundscape that surrounds us, introducing more and more noise into our everyday life. The work presents this idea with the symbolism of a "non-stop machine" producing noise. We observe the operation of the machine - which is directly related to the idea of the existence of the pulsating rhythm in the work - as it adds more and more elements to its core and therefore occupies more and more of the listener's attention. The work attempts to sonically depict everyday life in an urban environment, the various stages of human activity within it.

Apex

Inemuri is the Japanese practice of sleeping between one's daily activities but mainly during work. This can occur between meetings at work, on the way home or even waiting for the train after a night out. This piece presents the thoughts and feelings of a character in his daily life but also during the Inemuri in which he is dreaming. We will notice that the feelings and thoughts of our character remain the same as the various situations of everyday life that can cause anxiety and insecurity are also transferred to his dreams, but they are transformed and presented in a more imaginative and surreal way. The work somehow describes the dream process. In a dream we can experience situations from our everyday life, they can transform and become inexplicable or take an unexpected turn fulfilling our thoughts, desires and motivations which originate from the unconscious.

Inemuri

Inflection Point represents a person's lifelong struggle with anxiety and insecurity in their quest for peace and tranquility. This dichotomy is depicted in the work through two extremes: the intense noise of the urban landscape and the tranquility of the natural landscape. The idea for the work came from a visit I made to the Athens subway last year. As someone who has lived away from urban centers for years, the scenes I encountered inside the trains and various stations were unfamiliar to me. People were in constant tension to catch the next train, walking briskly -almost hurriedly- continuous movement, fast-paced rhythms, and a general sense of anxiety and melancholy. The same conditions were present in the soundscape: constant announcements from loudspeakers, footsteps and voices echoing in the large station halls, and the characteristic noise -capable of instilling awe due to its magnitude and intensity- emerging from the tunnel as the train approached the station. All these stimuli, which can cause turmoil, a sense of claustrophobia, and anxiety, are captured in this work as psychological obstacles that our character must overcome to secure the tranquility they so desperately seek. To achieve this, it is inevitable for the character to reach a peak and climax of intensity -a reflection of their psychological state- which will lead them to a critical point, or in other words, an inflection point.

Inflection Point

Nidari

Nonsense Opera is what I will call it. It's not noise. It's all-sense possibilia music but it's phaneron computes what at first blush registers to sense and senses as not really existing there as such -- it's a nothingness, an anti-grammar-- but, as it's flight from reality takes off, it collapses into mirror shards of reflective capacitance and charges the atmosphere with curiosity. I've been working to make a Gaian polyfold music for many years now. The orchestral players are everywhere and they always show up for rehearsals. "Sortie" in French: output, exit, outlet, release, outflow, outing. "Sept" because it's September and the Latin root word for seven because there will be seven pieces upon completion of the cycle. I wanted, still want to, maybe call it "Sept Saties", owing to the fact I was thinking whimsically of the composer, Erik Satie, these first days of Autumn, with the chestnuts and leaves beginning to detach. All these pieces will use the same sound stem composed of field recordings made over the Summer (including hydrophones and VLF) from Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania. Number 6 with shortwave radio accompaniment.

An attitude, in general terms, can be defined as a predisposition to respond positively or negatively to certain objects, people or situations. This work focuses on the behavioural aspect of children, as you will see, they perform actions in relation to the object or situation. 
How socioeconomic characteristics, where one can afford to live, can affect behavior, development, integration, the way of speaking, how we are seen and judged, being secure, happy, accepted...

Fantasy Variations on a Wooden Peg
The creation of this work was drawn from composer's memory of childhood. When he was a child, while he was crying, suffering, or in a restless state, his mother would turn the wooden pegs(https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DHiu2gUKPZE8e-ree2Jg-02NfoqmVOyQ/view?usp=sharing) on the bed to create some sounds to attract his attention to let him calm down! The main function of wooden pegs installed on bed is to hang the clothes while sleeping. But if you use different strength to poke it or turn it in , it can make interesting sounds like birds chirping, doors squeezing, or even piercing screams. 
Based on this bedside memory, the composer recorded the sound of wooden peg on the 60-years old ancient bed. Just like his mother, he improvised on this installation, trying to create various possible sounds, even a sound art piece. Those recorded sonic clips were then manipulated through the technique similar to “developing variation” to work out all the possibilities of transformation of the material.The processed sounds were then “organized”(in E. Varèse’s word) or “digital micro-montaged”(in H. Vaggione’s word) to build up a musical composition with artistic interests which may bring endless and fantastic imagination to the listener.  
Fantasy Variations on a Wooden Peg was created and finished at the Sound Lab at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University(NYCU) in Taiwan on October of 2024.

Amid the noise and busyness of daily urban life, I use electroacoustic sketches to express the blurred scenes of chaos and anxiety. The piece attempts to capture the emotions within the contrasts of internal and external pressures, presenting a sense of continuous compression and relaxation.

On a desolate night, amidst the vast wilderness, life grows untamed.
As silence settles, the wind carries dust and whispers through the shifting leaves.
Above, a sky brimming with stars. On the horizon — a distant mirage,
disrupting the balance of the natural order.

A god who shelters the earth breathes color into this barren land.
Buds burst forth. Branches reach skyward.
This is a story told by the oldest grove of oak trees —
a tale from a time before civilization carved its path through nature.

If such a land still existed,
how vivid, how radiant its colors would be —
or perhaps how fleeting, like a mirage.

Composer Contemporary Music

Sibylle Pomorin (*1956) studied from 1975 until 1980 flute and saxophone at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Münster, Germany. 

In 1984/85, she studied composition under Ernst Bechert in Hamburg, Germany and in 1994, she received composition lessons and an introduction to electroacoustic music from the American composer and electronic musician Alice Shields during a six-month stay in New York. 

Between 1982 and 1994 she toured with improvising musicians of the international scene and toured with her own groups and compositions through Europe and Israel. 

She received composition commissions for ensembles, festivals, broadcasting, and theatre as well as numerous prices and awards and was promoted by various working scholarships – inter alia in New York, Istanbul and Iceland. Scores publications and CD releases inter alia by Moers Music and in the Furore Verlag. 

Her music has been performed at international festivals for contemporary music in Europe, Israel, Mexico, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan and the USA.
