Melanie Anne Safka Schekeryk (February 3, 1947 – January 23, 2024), professionally known as Melanie or Melanie Safka, was an American singer-songwriter.
Melanie is widely known for the 1971–72 global hit "Brand New Key", her 1970 version of the Rolling Stones' "Ruby Tuesday", her composition "What Have They Done to My Song Ma", and her 1970 international breakthrough hit "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)", which was inspired by her experience of performing at the 1969 Woodstock music festival". Melanie's stardom was unintentional and unwanted: She had no desire to be a celebrity and was more interested in helping people in need.

"Beautiful People" encapsulates her personal philosophy in many ways. Ironically, it's also the song most responsible for launching her into stardom.
The inspiration for "Beautiful People" came during a New York City blackout that happened in Melanie's childhood.
"It was dark," Melanie said. "There were old people in the building. (OK, maybe they were in their 40s, but they seemed old at the time.)"

iv'e been making music for 4 years now I make electronic synthwave and synthpop music as well as I use a midi keyboard to make music. I started doing music because I wanted to inspire others to follow their dreams regardless of how silly or out there it may seem. I also love music it's my calling always has been. I have enjoyed music for as long as I can remember and cannot remember a day of not either singing or listening to music. I am self-taught when it comes to playing guitar but what I most enjoy is singing which I have been doing since around age 18. Now retired singing and playing the guitar is now just a hobby and something I do to help pass the time. Have always  loved the sound of a Martin guitar.
