
Qu'est-ce que le paludisme ? D'où vient la maladie et quelle est la cartographie de l'épidémie aujourd'hui ?
André Tchouatieu, médecin chez Medecines for Malaria Venture, revient avec nous sur les origines de la pandémie et sur l'évolution des moyens de lutte ces dernières années. Surtout, il introduit la relation qui unit changement climatique et paludisme et l'éventail de nouveaux obstacles qui en découlent.


Après plus de 20 ans d’expérience dans la prestation et l’accès aux soins en Afrique (conseiller médical pour l'Afrique de l'Est, Senior Medical Manager Global pour le paludisme à Paris, médecin chez Médecins Sans Frontières), André Tchouatieu est Directeur de l’Accès et de la Gestion des Produits chez Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) à Genève, où il dirige la stratégie de Chimioprévention du paludisme.

#1. Le paludisme, une maladie millénaire toujours d’actualité (avec André Tchouatieu)


Evénements météorologiques extrêmes, déplacements de populations, vagues de chaleur, changement saisonnalité et de pluviométrie, résistances du moustique... Cyril Caminade, climatologue, croise les paramètres socio-économiques des pays et les conséquences directes et indirectes du changement climatique pour dessiner différents scenarii et imaginer leurs impacts sur l'évolution du paludisme.


Cyril Caminade est chercheur, climatologue de formation, avec des compétences en épidémiologie spatiale et en biogéographie. Il a collaboré avec des biologistes, des statisticiens, des vétérinaires, des entomologistes, des épidémiologistes, des médecins, des climatologues et des experts en santé publique pour étudier l’impact du climat sur les maladies vectorielles, comme le paludisme, la dengue ou la fièvre de la Vallée du Rift. En tant que scientifique multidisciplinaire qui a travaillé sur des thématiques liées  à la santé humaine et animale, il a été invité à présenter ses travaux de recherches dans de nombreuses institutions prestigieuses comme le Collège de France ou l’Académie de Médecine. Cyril travaille maintenant sur la modélisation de l’impact du climat et des méthodes de contrôle sur le paludisme au Centre International de Physique Théorique à Trieste en Italie.

#2. Le climat change, le paludisme aussi (avec Cyril Caminade)


Comment la recherche permet de poursuivre les progrès en matière la lutte contre le paludisme ? Corinne Merle, médecin épidémiologiste spécialiste en santé publique, explique en quoi la recherche permet l'exploration de solutions face au défi posé par crise environnementale. Elle revient sur la nécessité d'investir pour développer des stratégies innovantes et adaptées qui maximisent l'efficacité de la lutte menée contre la pandémie.


Corinne Merle est médecin épidémiologiste spécialiste en santé publique. Elle travaille depuis 25 ans sur les maladies infectieuses, dont 10 passées à la London School of Hygiene
and Tropical Medicine. Elle est aujourd'hui scientifique au sein du Programme spécial de recherche et de formation sur les maladies tropicales (TDR) de l’OMS où elle se concentre sur la recherche de mise en œuvre sur les maladies infectieuses liées à la pauvreté, et plus particulièrement sur la tuberculose, le paludisme et les maladies négligées. En outre, elle est « team-lead » du programme sur la thématique changement climatique et santé.

#3. Paludisme et climat, la place de la recherche (avec Corinne Merle)


La modélisation, voilà une discipline peu connue et pourtant en essor depuis la pandémie de Covid-19, qui a fait émerger le besoin d'anticiper l'impact de différents scénarios de propagation de la maladie pour adopter les meilleures réponses. Emilie Pothin, modélisatrice de maladies infectieuses au Swiss TPH et à la Clinton Health Access Initiative, revient sur les forces de cet outil de priorisation – aussi levier de plaidoyer – qui intègre les conséquences du changement climatique pour maximiser l'efficacité des stratégies de lutte contre le paludisme.


Emilie Pothin dirige le groupe d’analyse et de modélisation des interventions au Swiss TPH. Experte en modélisation mathématique et en épidémiologie du paludisme, ses recherches intègrent des méthodes mathématiques et statistiques pour simuler la dynamique de la transmission, estimer l’impact des interventions contre le paludisme et tirer parti de ces connaissances pour améliorer les efforts de contrôle et d’élimination du paludisme. Avec son affiliation avec la Clinton Health Initiative, elle contribue au renforcement des capacités de modélisation des pays endémiques, via un soutien aux PNLP et décideurs politiques.
