This Lucid Dream

A second tribute to the 1982 Signals album by Rush, Subdivisions is another all-time favorite of mine. I tried my best again to produce a note-for-note recreation, but also wanted to add a few splashes of my own to accommodate the updated sound and bring Alex Lifeson’s contribution into the mix a little more (as it should be!).

Every sound you hear was made using software instruments (VSTs, plugins, sample libraries, etc.) with exception of the vocal track, which of course, is Geddy from the original recording. There’s also a little Easter Egg in the finale: Geddy’s beautiful vocal add at the end (from the live version on A Show Of Hands). Recreating the synth sounds proved to be tough, as we all have those lush analog tracks burned into our brains more than 40 years later. The guitar track & solo was more involved than my ears heard previously. And the drum track? Well, it’s Neil Peart so…yeah, that was a workout learning/programming those parts. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the mix. Let me know what you think.

Subdivisions (Rush Cover)

Gravity is a short progressive rock instrumental I had started shortly before Rush drummer Neil Peart's passing, which took the song in a different direction. The final result was a tribute of sorts to one of my favorite bands growing up.

Originally released with the Three Thirty Three EP in 2020, it has been reworked, remixed & remastered in 2024.

Just a brief disclaimer: The guitar solo is not my own. I just ripped it from an isolated audio source of the original song. That's why the solo sounds so amazing (and perhaps, oddly familiar, lol!) It's Lifeson, not me. But everything else is mine except Neil Peart's drumming, which again, is another isolated audio track of the original song.
