Respected barrister Sir Wilfred Robarts is recovering from a near-fatal heart attack when the case of a lifetime comes through the door. Leonard Vole has been accused of murdering a wealthy old lady, and suspicion is only increased when he's named as the largest beneficiary of her will. Vole's only alibi is his wife Christine, a German immigrant who swears that her husband must be innocent. Of course, a jury is unlikely to accept the testimony of a loving spouse. Sir Wilfred finds himself drawn into a tangled web of lies and deceit that lead to a truly shocking outcome.

At time of recording, it was ranked 66th on the list of the best movies of all time on the Internet Movie Database.

2024 is the 70th anniversary of Alfred Hitchcock's filming of his 'comedy' The Trouble With Harry in our little village of Craftsbury 
Common, Vermont, in 1954. Over the years there have been a good number of newspaper articles written about the filming. Two articles from the Hardwick Gazette, one written by June Cook in 1985, and the other by Janet Reed in 1998, dealt with local involvement in the affair. Longtime summer residents Merrill Leffler and Ann Slayton spent some time editing the two articles into one reading, which they present here.

Episode 7 - Diary of a Wimpy Sid

September 8, 2024. Film historian Rick Winston, founder of the Lightening Ridge Film Society and operator of the Savoy Theater in Montpelier, is the author of "Save Me A Seat: A Life With Movies". He was invited to the Trouble With Harry Festival  in Craftsbury to deliver remarks concerning the making of that film on Craftsbury Common in 1954 by Alfred Hitchcock, and starring Shirley MacLaine, in her first movie role, and John Forsythe. The Festival was organized by both the Craftsbury Library and The Craftsbury Historical Society. Rick's visit was underwritten by Vermont Humanities in Montpelier. These are his remarks.

Women InSession: The Hitchcock Blonde

This week, Spooktober continues with what is widely regarded as one of the most frightening films of all time, as a British master of cinema scares turns his sights to the skies with an eco-horror story that dares to ask... what if birds were jerks? It's 1963's The Birds, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, based on a short story by Daphne du Maurier, and starring Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Plechet and a young Veronica Cartwright. Time has not been the kindest to this old girl, as a number of sequences that shocked and frightened audiences back in the day now play as laughably funny a lot of the time. Being a Hitchcock film, there are a handful of transcendently great scenes, but few of them involve dive-bombing birds if we're being honest. I guess you can probably tell we didn't love it. Tune in to hear us justify those feelings! Plus: J Mo's been on a trashy horror kick to get in the Spooky Season mood, and Hayley's got a theatrical field report on the Jason Reitman SNL origin picture Saturday Night.

Yes, it's 1959's North by Northwest, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, written by Ernest Lehman, and starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason, Leo G. Carroll and Martin Landau. A classic mistaken identity thriller, Hitchcock is recombining story elements from a number of spy films of his past, leaving one final stamp on the genre before turning his focus back to horror. The end result is a movie that has its fingerprints all over not just the Mission: Impossible franchise, but what we expect from blockbuster entertainment period.
