Far-Reaching Dreams

Most of the polyphonic algorithmic music I've made has been in 5-limit or 7-limit just intonation. Now I'm going to try to figure out 11-limit and higher. Here's a sketch of how I think I'm going to treat harmony in a study of Arabic scales, this one in maqam Rast with a Pythagorean spine and neutral intervals at 27/22 and 81/44. The piece is lacking in cadences and melodic motives and other song structure, but I'm still excited about where it's going.

Interference is an ongoing project by Evaporationist. Each installment features algorithmically generated music, created using various data sonification and randomization techniques. This first installment features tracks produced by sonifying computational sorting algorithms, creating spectrographs from digital images, and randomly generated patterns of notes using Max-For-Live. Once the raw materials were generated, they were treated and arranged to create cohesive compositions.
