Some sets just hit differently. 3 weeks ago at @kino_pavilion in Almaty 🇰🇿 Footprints Vol.1 was one of those moments—a session that stretched across sounds, eras, and emotions. It was instinctual, electric, and unpredictable in the best way possible. 70 minutes. 29 tracks.

A dark, hypnotic track with ethnic elements, blending Trip-Hop, Downtempo, and Instrumental Hip-Hop. At its core, a Kazakh folk melody, “Kamazhai,” is played live on electric guitar and bass, immersing the listener in an ambient atmosphere. A powerful drum part with broken rhythms, combined with airy, deep synth lines, adds density and a dark vibe to the sound. An original musical embodiment of the nomadic people of the Great Steppe.

Rustam is well known for his long 6-8 hrs vinyl sets in New York City. He was a resident DJ at Public Records, Virgin Hotel, Ace Hotel NY & Brooklyn, Lilli Star at Moxy Brooklyn Hotel, Izzy Rose, Studio 151, Nublu, Record Room. He also played records at some of the most important NYC venues like Nowadays, Elsewhere, Jupiter Disco, Le Bain, Black Flamingo, Magick City, Milagrosa, Good Bar, including regular DJ sets at Brooklyn Museum and Rockefeller Center.

He is best known for being the founder of Jazzystan Music Festival (this ran from 2009 in Almaty, Kazakhstan) in his home country. He booked and produced live acts featuring artists like Jamiroquai, Incognito, OMAR, Marcos Valle, Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, LEFTO, Nubya Garcia, EZRA Collective, Kyoto Jazz Massive feat.
