here’s something a little different

i’ve been writing minimalist-ish piano songs for the past decade, with no direction or project in mind. at some point between recording and releasing our first record it became clear to me that i had most of a solo piano album already written. it would just require some time and some focus to see that idea become a reality.

today i’m happy to share ‘fortune’, from the upcoming album ‘leave yourself alone II’, coming soon.

in a way, the follow-up is the natural antithesis of our first album, being so simple, and small, but i also think it carries along some of the same sentiments and feelings, only without words (and/or guitar solos) to pin those feelings down in space and time. maybe some of that will come across to you, or maybe it’ll sound totally unlike its predecessor. either way i hope it’s enjoyed.

‘fortune’ might be the simplest song on the album, so it felt right to share this one first.

Frano Parać (Split, 11 May 1948), graduated in composition at the Music Academy of Zagreb in the class of Stanko Horvat, and continued his education under Marino Zuccheri in Milan at the Studio fonologia musicale della RAI. Since 1978 he has taught at the Music Academy of Zagreb, first as professor of theoretical courses, then of composition.

In 1992 he was appointed the position of full professor and he was elected dean on two occasions (1985 – 1987 and 2002 – 2006). Since as early as 1975 he has received numerous and most prominent professional awards as well as national medals.

In 1992 he was accepted as associate member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, becoming its full member in 2008. In the aesthetic, composing-technical and other versatile brittleness of music from the last quarter of the 20th century the Croatian composer Frano Parać succeeded in finding his distinguished place owing to his infallible musical instinct, skilful notation technique and clearly expressed belief that “the artists must raise his voice, because the noise around him has become too great”.

I only mention it because I want to focus all my time on art and not feel like I'm drowning in failure and self-pity. I'm a poet, so if it feels poetic, long, or over expressive, that's why. 
        I'd love to get an acoustic guitar, violin and a mic system so I can make better quality songs and make better folk-rock songs that don't sound so awful.  My music sucks, but I wish I could be a studio artist or an artist with better audio. A mic system would be nice so I can hit G6 and C3 that sound good instead of screechy.
