The Machine talking to you

Saxomaphone is a dance piece influenced by a variety of clichés normally associated with the saxophone. There are melodic lines
derived from a variety of pop and jazz genres such as Ska, Reggae, and Hard Bop. I’ve taken these clichés and put them in contexts in
which they are not normally heard. One of the aspects of writing a sax quartet I found most interesting was seeing how the actual
timbre of the instrument is dependent upon the musical situation in which it is placed. A saxophonist playing Charlie Parker’s
Ornithology sounds very different from one playing the Paul Creston Saxophone Sonata. I’ve tried to use a variety of these sounds as
essential ingredients. For me, as a composer, notes are actually a small part of the compositional process. The structure, the macro
and micro-rhythms, the mood and, mainly, the overall sound of the instruments are much more important.

This piece was inspired by a hike in the Laurentian Mountains years ago. Some sounds were puzzling, and I attributed them to an Oread, a mountain nymph from Greek mythology.

Under Train

Created in collaboration with award-winning choreographer, Juilliard Alumni, and current NYU fellow, Haley Murphree, for the Nevada Ballet Theatre’s inaugural DanceLab, AI: Arts Incapacitated was born out of the search for human connection and natural creation in a world consumed by the growing popularity of artificial intelligence without limitation. The piece explores the progression of humanity throughout history and into the Age of Technology and how the use of AI may impact our ability to decipher what is human-made and what is not, specifically in the context of art.

AI: Arts Incapacitated

Melodic instrumental Jazz/Rock.
After a short introduction played on the organ, the alto sax plays the first tune before a contrasting bridge/riff on baritone sax and synthesizer in unison. The main tune is then played on tenor sax followed by an improvised tenor sax solo.    
Overall an atmospheric melodic piece of jazz/rock.

Redlight District

This piece, the fifth in my Space Voyager series, is an interpretation of communications and images from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) that was launched into low earth orbit in April 1990 and which remains in operation. Images from the HST (see the accompanying image) have been processed as “sonifications” (converting data into sound) by NASA, and form part of the background of this track.

Family Guy

This piece, the sixth in my Space Voyager series, is my interpretation of communications from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The largest telescope in space, JWST can produce images of objects too faint for the Hubble Space Telescope. JWST was launched on Christmas Day 2021 and its first images became publicly available in July 2022. Sonifications of three of its incredible views of the universe can be heard n the background.

Galactic Observatory 2

This medium tempo piece of instrumental jazz/rock, starts with a slowly building introduction, before the 1st tune starts, played on alto sax. This is then followed by a 2nd tune, still on alto, but the time signature changes from 4/4 to 6/4. The tempo remains the same throughout. The main tune follows, but now in 7/4, and played on tenor sax. The chord sequence and time signature remain the same for the improvized flute solo, before a return of the main tune.
Overall, a rhythmic piece of music using a combination of electronic and acoustic instruments.

Indigo Nocturne

This piece of instrumental jazz/rock, is very melodic in nature. The main tune is played on alto saxophone, which starts without an introduction, followed by an improvised tenor sax solo, using the same chords.
The whole piece has a relaxed fast walking feel to it, and uses a combination of electronic and acoustic instruments.

An all-star group of sorts, Nostal-jazz debuted in July 2022 and is comprised of local Jazz professionals who are well versed in not only Jazz but Rock, Funk, and Electronic styles. Sophie Moorea is an Argentinian-American composer, arranger, and trombonist from São Paulo, Brazil. With over 10 years of experience in music and dance across three continents, she seeks to highlight shared human experiences and raise awareness of social justice issues through her work.

Jennifer Bellor is hailed by Textura as a “that rare composer whose music manages to be instantly listenable and emotionally resonant without any compromise to its sophistication.”  Her compositional style, marked by a fusion of influences drawn from imagery, literature, and personal experiences, showcases a melodic richness underscored by jazz and pop-infused harmonies. Her music has been presented widely throughout the U.S. and abroad and has three acclaimed albums to her name. Her debut album Stay (2016), a melting pot of different music styles largely based on poetry, features instrumental and vocal chamber music with jazz and classical musicians. Reflections at Dusk (Innova Recordings, 2019), showcases instrumental music inspired by the Nevada sunsets and her third album, Oneira, features the percussion quartet, Clocks in Motion (Aerocade Music, 2022).

In anticipation of her forthcoming album, Long These Days, slated for release on August 16, 2024, through EMITHA’s prestigious label, Lexicon Classics, Bellor continues to push artistic boundaries. Collaborating with soprano Olivia Yokers, bass singer Norman Espinoza, and electric guitarist Tasos Peltekis, the album promises a captivating journey from dawn to night. Inspired by the timeless poetry of Christina Rossetti and Pablo Neruda, the album’s thematic depth is enriched by instrumental interludes crafted by Bellor on piano and Peltekis’ improvisations on electric guitar.

Bellor holds degrees from Eastman School of Music (PhD), Syracuse University (MM), and Cornell University (BA) and serves as Assistant Professor of Music Composition at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

     My name is Omar Octavio Gaytán-Procel, born in México City and currently living in Copenhagen, Denmark. Music and Composition especially have played a very significant role in my life for the past 40 years or so.

    With my production I try to portray the human drama of our times, all of that fragmented reality that appears in front of us every day and that we, the composers, painters, writers use to express our vision of ourselves and the creation around us. My production consist in more than 1000 pieces to the date ( February 2024 ) and is divided in multiple textures and formats. It started years ago with acoustic music and with time and new technology it developed into electro-acoustic music and later into pure electronic.

    Here on my SoundCloud you will find some examples of the different musical ideas that I have been involved with from the mid-nineties to this date. This ideas range from Solo pieces, Chamber Music, Orchestral Music to pure Electronics.

Ken Walicki is an American composer who is widely recognized and acknowledged for his dramatic, and engaging music, which reflects the times in which we live. Because of his unusual and interesting background, his sound world has evolved into a unique combination of Art, Pop, Jazz, and World music. Walicki‘s influences include Gyorgy Ligeti, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Public Enemy, and much more. He was one of the first composers to use turntables in his music and the first composer to have turntables and a D.J. as regular members in a standing ensemble. His music has been performed throughout the world by, among others, the Kronos Quartet, ETHEL, the New Century Saxophone Quartet, the Soldier String Quartet, the Divan Consort, and members of the New York Philharmonic, The Los Angeles Symphony, The Los Angeles Chamber Symphony, The Detroit Symphony, The Pacific Symphony, the Istanbul Borusan Orchestra, and the SWR Kaiserslautern Orchestra. He is the composer-in-residence for the new music ensemble The Divan Consort. Walicki has received grants and commissions from a variety of organizations and performing ensembles including the American Composers Forum, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Jerome Foundation, the Kronos Quartet, the Mary Flagler Cary Trust, and Meet the Composer.
Growing up playing guitar in local Detroit garage bands, Walicki decided, at early age, he wanted to dedicate his life to music. His education included a two-year period in Germany as a Fulbright scholar where he studied with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Helmut Lachenmann, and Rolf Hempel. He was also an active participant in master classes with Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, and William Schumann. After returning from Germany, he studied with Jere Hutcheson at Michigan State University where he received his Ph.D. Walicki enjoys traveling and finds it to be a fantastic source of inspiration. After
spending a large amount of time in the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent, he has found these cultures to be particularly close to his heart. Together these experiences have made him a composer of diverse, accessible, physically, and spiritually moving, yet intellectually rigorous music. In addition to his music being presented in traditional concert music venues such as Lincoln Center in New York and the Liszt Academy in Budapest, his music has also been performed in new music clubs such as CBGB’s, the Knitting Factory, and countless cafes and storefronts throughout the world. Without compromising his values, he has made a point of writing music that relates to people and their situations. Walicki has collaborated with a variety of artists in the classical, pop, theater, film, and dance worlds, including Lydia Lunch, Dora Ohrenstein, the Doug Elkins Dance Company, Emmy winning producer/director Mark Obenhaus, American Opera Projects, Bermuda Triangle, Bang on a Can All-Stars, the Kronos Quartet, Divan Consort, and Ensemble Green. He was the founder and composer of the Ken Valitsky Ensemble, which included Regina Carter and Thomas Chapin as members. Previously, besides being on the faculty at New York University, Walicki has taught composition in Istanbul, Turkey at the Center for Advanced Music Techniques(MIAM), a department of Istanbul Technical University. Currently, he lives in Southern California with his son, and the family dogs. His music is available on Knitting Factory Works, C.R.I., CRS Artists, Channel Records, Albany Records and Ravello Records.

In Mexico, I played with bands like "Batallón de San Patricio", "Atrás del Cosmos", "Queso Sagrado", " Broken Heart", "Decibel", "Bardo Thodol", "Kathmandu Ensemble". In New York City I played with Bands like, "King"s East", "In The Service Of", "Fist of Facts", "Desire", "Dense Undergrowth"," "Matahari", "Like Wow", "Devil's Breakfast", "Muse Mob", "Atlantis 3000", "Monster", "Zenith", "Andromeda Crash" "Night Shade", I also collaborated with Hector Zazou, Harold Budd, Elliott Levin, Dennis Charles, Tetsu Inoue, Bettina Koster. Barbara Gogan, and many others. For many years I also wrote Jingles for a lot of products like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Mc Donalds, Toyota, Kodak, Payless Shoes, Rothman's, Salsa Tabasco, JC Penny, Liberty Science Center, American Heart Association, MCI, Reebok, AT&T, Fanta, Play Movil, etc, I also made music for Viacom writing music for cartoon networks, Bravo TV, Chanel 1, and MTV. Also wrote music for Bill Moyers (PBS)and also for Fax TV in Germany.
