Guest Bio:
Kelley is an animist, author, deathwalker, and death doula held and tended by Tuscarora, Woccon, and Sissipihaw land (central North Carolina). For the last 25 years, through Soul Intent Arts she has helped others ethically build thriving spiritual paths. Her work is Nature-based, and centers soul tending through the Elder Futhark runes oracle, animism, ancestral tending, and deathwork. She hosts the podcast, What in the Wyrd, and also writes The Weekly Rune as a celebration of the Elder Futhark in season. Work with her in her community Runes for Change or her soul tending training intensive, The Spirited Path.

Background and acknowledgment: Walatowa is the word in the Jémez language for Jémez Pueblo, New Mexico, one of nineteen traditional communities in the southwest United States that include several of the most ancient sites of continuous habitation (to the present) in North America. 

The generating idea of this work is a song composed by Frank Fragua, now among the ancestors of present-day Jémez Pueblo.  In the early 1980's, Mr. Fragua was generous to share with me a glimpse of the tradition of song renewal that he helped to pass down within that community. This work also commemorates my deep respect for and enduring gratitude to him.
