In the fall of 2024 I celebrate 20 years since I started studying composition.
As a way of marking that I decided to collect these movements, all modelled on other composer's works, into one coherent piano sonata.

The respective movements are all modelled on a separate composers work.

Mvt. 1 "Allegro molto" is modelled on a movement by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)
Mvt. 2 "Andante cantabile" is modelled on a movement by Ignaz Pleyel (1757-1831)
Mvt. 3 "Tempo di minuetto" is based on a musical game by Johann Philipp Kirnberger (1721-1783)
Mvt. 4 "Vivace" is modelled on a movement by Muzio Clementi (1752-1832)

The idea for composing movements based on other composer's work came from an excercise found in Carl Czerny's book The School of practical composition Op. 600 published in 1830 in which he too recomposes the same movement by Mozart I have used for the first movement.

Love City

A dream of mine was to have likeminded musicians in a room and work together to create magic! I feel so strongly about it when I say I really think we did something amazing here! 

Over the last few years from starting my music career to releasing my first single I’ve had relentless help from family and music industry experts who guided me and gave me great experiences and life lessons. Now that I’m a fully independent artist and flying the next solo, I wanted to sink my teeth into a project that I had organised all by myself! Hence the idea for my EP!

I had a more jazzier track called “To Love For A Day” which I wrote back in 2020 that I never had the opportunity to release! It’s more stripped back, acoustic style didn’t  really support itself next to my most recent releases! Hence this idea to do an acoustic EP!

“To Love For A Day” (Bonus Track), co-written with Amy Walton, my university lecturer and South African singer/ songwriter, originally started out as a song for those who had never experienced a loving relationship and dreamt of spending their days with that special someone! Eventually, it became something way more than that! I roped my parents into a conversation about their love and moments of happiness and translated that into a song. I tried to merge the trials and tribulations of love into one day, one song! This song will forever remind me of my parents and their love that they cherish together!

To accompany this bonus track I selected three previously released songs of mine and rearranged them with Alex Hancox (MD & Bassist), Jack Kendrew (Guitarist), Tom Connolly (Drummer). Together we came up with three distinct tracks that I think work harmoniously with “To Love For A Day”. Hopefully, you can connect with these songs on a deeper level and learn to love the acoustic versions just as much as the studio recordings!

Lastly, “Breathing The Same Air”. I’m reluctant to tell you too much about this song. The studio recording isn’t far from being finished and will be released in 2025. However, what I can say is that this song can be summed up as the “honeymoon stage”. That place at the start of a relationship where you hang on every word the person you love says. You have your suspicions but you choose to ignore them in the hopes of finding true love! It’s like the noise in the world is cancelled out and it’s only you two on one big planet! If you’re a true Josh Hicks fan you may recognise this from my live performance shows! 

I get to sing the majority of these songs acoustically whenever I perform live. Now I’m hoping with this EP that those who aren’t fortunate enough to travel to watch me perform, will forever have a digital on-demand performance at the tips of their fingers. 

What I want the listeners to take away from this EP is artistry! I personally believe music has become quite washed and repetitive and the magic and artistry has disappeared into the background! If you listen to even one of the tracks in this EP and feel inspired, then that’s enough for me!

Andante

A contemporary Welsh blue-eyed soul singer songwriter Josh Hicks, self-styled after icons Amy Winehouse, Ms. Lauryn Hill and Adele, is known for his soulful emotive vocals, heartfelt storytelling and witty conversation. His sound is reminiscent of the Golden Age of American soul music, with a modern lyrical awareness.

Josh is excited to release his debut EP on 25th October 2024. ‘JOSH HICKS Live & Acoustic’, inspired by Amy Winehouse’s live acoustic performances on the BBC. It celebrates the support Josh has received from family and friends and guidance from industry experts, musicians and producers since his music career began in 2021.

Having worked closely with Emeli Sandé back in 2021, Josh went on to release his first single in 2023. Now 2024, Josh released his third single which featured on BBC Introducing Wales with Adam Walton.

Josh Hicks’ live performances have allowed him to open for Natalie Imbruglia at ‘In It Together Festival’ and be interviewed by Bronwen at BBC Radio Wales.

This year, Josh has performed for the first time at Sofa Sounds (London), Focus Wales stage at ‘In It Together’ festival and filled the room with his headline show at Porters Cardiff. Josh captivates his audience through his intense vocal expression and free-spirited performances offering them a sense of nostalgia, artistry and witty conversation, with fans singing and dancing together.

Sashy has been immersed in electronic music since childhood but fully embraced DJing and music production later in life. Originally from Kyiv, she moved to Toronto in her early twenties, where her journey flourished, enriched by her background in piano, dance, and songwriting.

During the pandemic, she pursued her DJing passion and quickly gained recognition on global radio stations like Ibiza Stardust, Mix365, and Remix Radiofy. Her SoundCloud mixes highlight her favorite genres—Afro House, Progressive House, Melodic House/Techno, and Organic House—featuring the latest tracks in electronic music. Beyond the decks, Sashy is a full-time corporate event planner dedicated to empowering women in the industry and inspiring others to follow their passions.

I am a music teacher at Oskarshams Folkhögskola, where I teach classical singing, composition, music theory and chamber music. 
I am also a singer with primarily art songs on my repertoire, a hobby composer and poet and a founding member of the Mönsterås Jazz and Chamber Music Society.
I studied composition at Ingesund College of Music and Baroque counterpoint at Uppsala University and mostly write vocal music for song and piano, and/or choir but eventually compose for other instruments and ensembles as well.
I have been called "a radiant talent in finding the essentials in different musical styles" (Arvika Nyheter, December 4, 2006) and regional news paper Barometern wrote that my music shows "good insight in choice of melody and harmonic part writing" (September 25, 2012).
My music has been performed in Austria, Canada, England, Germany, Sweden and USA.

Notable works are:

"Three nocturnal Songs Op. 11", song cycle of three songs for soprano and piano. Premiered by Cecilia Alrikson and Natalja Shakova in Oskarshamn, Sweden in 2018.

"Night songs Op. 6", song cycle of five songs for baritone and piano. Premiered by Anthony Schneider and Rosemary Barnes in Vienna, Austria in 2013.

"Ave Maria - String quartet in d minor Op. 12", string quartet in three movements. Published by Gusthold Music, USA in 2020.

"Av hjärtat, sjung! Op. 22", cantata in five movements for STB soloists, SATB and childrens choir, string quartet and piano. Comissioned for the opening concert of the four day festival "L'Esprit - upplev 1700-talet" (L'Esprit - Experience the 18th century) in 2020.

"Joie de vivre - Piano sonata No. 2" Op. 23, sonata in four movements for solo piano. Composed in 2020.

"Jaktsonaten - Violin sonata No. 1 Op. 13", sonata in four movements for violin and piano. Composed in 2016.
