The only difference is that the man can't stop thinking about her and longing for someone who doesn't truly love him. He was just a pitstop to her, someone to pass the time with. Near the end of the song, the man realizes her true character and intentions.

This is about a man who is trying to wrap his mind around the pain of a woman he loves, lying to him and dragging him along. She makes him feel like there is something intimate between them but continues to keep her distance, never revealing her true feelings or intentions. At the end of the song, he admits that the pain will always be there, but so will the love he has for her.

Meaning,

It is the story of two lovers in a long-distance relationship and the perspective of the partner who is being broken up with. The person doesn’t understand what their lover is saying until its too late. They text back and try to make sense of the reasoning behind their relationship falling apart. This person realizes there were many signs leading to this eventual breakup. They get upset because they feel betrayed and abandoned by someone who promised to always be there. “you’re just here for the inspiration, when this ends there's no complications” is a line in the song that describes the lack of feeling the other shows their partner and how they must have been with them only to benefit themselves.

Meaning,

It’s about recognizing the writer’s ignorant and ungrateful attitude for the past and living in California. He didn’t appreciate the positive, only focusing on the negative, but realizing years later the amount of opportunity he squandered. The writer left Pennsylvania to go live the life he believed he always wanted and sacrificed a long-term relationship for what he thought he wanted. Ultimately, he has the chance to get back together with this person, but he understands the toxicity they both had while dating. He didn’t have the strength to break the shackles of love and when he finally did, all he felt was regret so he dove into substance abuse and ruined a part of his life, a piece of himself and whatever bright future he may have had in another state. The writer ultimately returned home and is now living with his parents, trying to become a better and more mindful person, to push himself to gain what might have been lost years before.
