On the shores of Te Moana-a-Toi, where the Bay of Plenty kissed the city of Tauranga, a pair of friends, kindred spirits bound by rhythm and melody, found inspiration in the whispers of the sea breeze and the laughter of the sunlit waves. These two, Groundhog, were purveyors of groove. One morning, as the first lights danced across the water, they stood atop Mauao, the sacred mountain overlooking their hometown. The air was alive with energy, as if the earth itself hummed in anticipation of what was to come. It was there, under the glow of the rising sun, that inspiration struck. The first melody emerged full of promise. They called it “Be The One” and it captured the belief that every step forward was a chance to be someone’s light. Later, as they wandered through the bustling markets of Tauranga, the vibrant energy of the people ignited their imagination. This became the soul of “What’s That”, a playful groove infused with funky beats that seemed to ask a question without ever needing an answer. A celebration of curiosity. As the day turned to twilight, the hum of the ocean and the glow of the moon inspired the final “Chandeliers”. This track was their homage to the night, to moments of intimacy and wonder shared under a canopy of glittering lights. With the three tracks complete, Groundhog knew they had captured the spirit of Tauranga, the energy of rebirth, the thrill of discovery and the quiet magic of connection. They called their creation Be The One EP, a sonic invitation for the world to step out with open hearts and moving feet. On March 28 2025, as spring unfolds in the Northern Hemisphere, you will hear what Te Moana-a-Toi has whispered to these two souls. Groundhog - Be The One

New London label Natural Element kicks things off with the debut release from Fremantle based Jon E. These 3 tracks showcase the producer’s innate flair for slick, sophisticated grooves that evoke the rawness of Detroit as well as the spirit of London’s broken beat pioneers. The A-side offering ‘New Ventures’ is a beautifully crafted piece of jazzed-up house with an infectious bassline and synths that weave in and out to create a warm and uplifting energy, whilst ‘Sunflowers’ on the flip side is a no-nonsense jam with wonky drums, vibrant strings and a soaring synth solo reminiscent of Kaidi Tatham. ‘Where & When’ rounds off the EP with a bouncy, feel good groove featuring jazzy piano stabs and some vocal work from Aeasheiaa. Another killer quartet from Germany's Damian Rausch here, featuring some of his most powerful work to date. 'Together (Big Room Mix)' started out as a remix for Chez Damier & Ben Vendren's H2H project before morphing into the track you hear now. It sits at the perfect mid-point between skippy '90s house and atmospheric progressive (those stabs tho!), seamlessly blending the deep and the driving with an array of lush sounds peppered throughout the mix. 'Let The Sunshine In (Club Mix)' is pumping while maintaining a deep edge, driven by sorrowful organ bass and a haunting tone surrounding Sulene Fleming's powerhouse vocal, invoking turn-of-the-millenium chart dance classics. 'Twister' heads deeper into proggy grooves, tempered soulful vocal strains, while 'Windows' goes further into heads-down territory, whipping up a relentless hypnotic groove.
