Ali Capper is in partnership at Stocks Farm, Suckley, Worcestershire UK with her husband Richard and his father Mark, the Cappers specialise in growing hops and apples. They farm dessert & cider apples and hops. 

Stocks Farm is a 200 year old hop and fruit farm on the glorious Herefordshire/Worcestershire border. It has been farmed by the Capper family since 1962, and is proud to be growing Award Winning British Hops and Apples in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Ali is a Director of the Oxford Farming Conference and she is Chairman of the NFU's National Horticulture & Potatoes Board, British Apples & Pears and Wye Hops. Her Nuffield Scholarship in 2014 focused on the export of great British hops, and niche apple varieties, travelling to Germany, New Zealand, Canada, USA, France, Belgium and Vietnam.

Welcome to Food Safety in a Minute from Washington State University Extension.

Did you know Washington State produces 124 million 40-pound boxes of apples each year? Popular varieties include Gala, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Honeycrisp, Fuji, and Cosmic Crisp®.

It’s the perfect time to preserve a little comfort making and preserving apple butter. Sweet, spiced, and shelf-stable. For food safety and quality, always use a research-based, tested recipe and follow directions carefully. The National Center for Home Food Preservation is a trusted source. Eight pounds of apples yield 8 to 9 pints of apple butter. Pint jars are processed in a boiling water canner for five to fifteen minutes, depending on altitude.

The Center also offers safe, research-based recipes for applesauce, spiced apple rings, sliced apples, and reduced-sugar apple butter.

I wrote a New England folk song inspired by the rising costs at UMass Cold Spring Orchard, capturing the tension between community needs and the orchard’s research mission. With simple, spare guitar and violin, paired with soulful male vocals, this track evokes the crisp autumn air and the longing for affordable harvests. I chose this style to reflect the timeless, grounded spirit of New England’s orchards and the honest struggles of its people.


Verse 1
In the hills of old New England, where the apple trees do grow,
There's a place called Cold Spring Orchard, where the autumn breezes blow.
Run by UMass, proud and learned, with research in their sights,
But the prices keep on climbin', and it don't feel quite right.

Make them apples affordable here!

For twenty years we'd wander, through your rows of Gala sweet,

"Adam & Eve" is about how we’re still like the first humans, chasing the apple even when we know the consequences. The song captures the way we repeat the same mistakes, give in to temptation, and reach for things we shouldn’t — sometimes hurting others, sometimes getting hurt ourselves. Dark and relentless, it reflects the endless loop of desire and consequence, showing how we keep falling into the same patterns no matter how hard we try to resist.

Apple lovers will travel throughout Franklin County in search of the perfect cider this weekend as CiderDays kicks off its three-day run on Friday. The event – which unites professional cidermakers, interested tasters, novices and aficionados — features three days of tastings and special programming from workshops to music to food of all kinds and other events from morning until night.
