Was die Einspielung des Albums "Merlins Reise" tatsächlich zu einer Entdeckungsfahrt außerhalb der hinlänglich bekannten Routen des Jazzrocks macht, ist die Hinzunahme des Oud-Spielers Hesham Hamra zum Quintett, dem neben Simon Zauels am E-Bass, Daniel Buch am Sax, Aerofon und der Bassklarinette, Patrick Baumann an der E-Gitarre, Antoine Spranger an Flügel und Rhodes sowie Tobias Frohnhöfer am Schlagzeug angehören. Im Verbund mit einem Streichquartett in der titelgebenden „Merlins Reise“-Suite fügt der Syrer dem zuweilen etwas hyperventilierenden Sameka-Sound feine Klangnuancen hinzu. Und das führt sogar so weit, dass sich die arabische Oud in dem offensichtlich unter dem Eindruck der Taiwan-Tourneen des Quintetts entstandenen 9-Minüter „Lŭchéng“ anhört wie ein Instrument aus China. Was für eine Fusion!

Sameka is a young and exciting jazz-rock band from Germany that was founded in 2019. Led by their bass player, Simon Zauels, the quintet´s music is characterized by an interesting combination of electric and acoustic instruments that create a unique and captivating sound.

In 2021 the band received a scholarship, with the assistance of this scholarship and guest Oud player Hesham Hamra, Sameka recorded their debut album „Introducing Sameka“, featuring original compositions, for Mons Records. "Jazz in Europe" praised the debut for its combination of deep respect for tradition and high levels of originality. As finalists of the Future Sounds Contest, Sameka performed at the Leverkusener Jazztage in the fall of 2022.

In March of the following year, Sameka embarked on their first international tour, taking them to Taiwan to share their music with a new audience. On July 14, 2023, the quintet graced the stage at the renowned Jazzopen Festival in Stuttgart, Germany.

Entering the new year, Sameka forged a new partnership with Timezone Records and is delighted to release their second album under this prestigious label. Titled "Sameka & Strings – Merlins Reise," the album is set to be unveiled on May 31, 2024. Promising a unique fusion of soundscapes, the album features a string quartet and once again highlights the talents of Oud player Hesham Hamra.

To celebrate the album's release, the band will embark on an exclusive Album Release Tour in Taiwan in March. This presents fans with the opportunity to experience the melodies of "Merlins Reise" live before the album hits the shelves.

As an aspiring artist, I am a dreamer who finds solace in the realms of music, poetry, and cinema. Fueled by passion, I have embarked on my artistic journey, aiming to weave a tapestry of tranquility amidst the chaos of a world filled with tragedies and sorrows.  In my humble contributions, I endeavor to carve out a small haven of peace and quietude, not only for myself but also for those who appreciate my work. My artistic venture officially began in 2018 with Jam Sessions and intimate concerts alongside various bands. Since then, I've evolved to craft my own music, drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of Jazz and Oriental Arabic music.  My musical exploration spans the spectrum, encompassing traditional, oriental melodies to the vibrant realms of pop, latin, Swing and jazz. Each stage becomes a canvas where I share emotions and experiences, aspiring to resonate with the hearts of those who lend their ears to my creations.

إنسان محب للموسيقى والشعر والسينما، في بداية حياتي الفنية  وأعمل  في هذا المجال من أجل الشغف. ففي هذا العالم يوجد الكثير من المآسي والهموم، ومن خلال الأعمال البسيطة التي أقدمها، أحاول أن أخلق لي ولمن يستمتع بأعمالي، فسحة ولو صغيرة من هدوء وسلام،  لست مهتما بأي لقب قد أنادى فاسمي في هذا الوجود يكفيني.
