𝑯𝑰𝑮𝑯 𝑹𝑰𝑺𝑲 is a conceptual sound piece that works with the risk analysis on the use of so-called artificial intelligence in various fields, including governance, as published in the EU AI ACT. It is part of the 𝓓𝓮𝓪𝓭 𝓖𝓵𝓲𝓽𝓬𝓱 research project and an evolution of the performance script (2024).

While the legislative framework of the European Union aimed regulation and a safe and ethical use of AI, a new reality was created through dubious exceptions. The Al Act, originally designed as a shield, can become a mechanism of threat. A law that dissolves itself, a framework that no longer aligns with the principles that originally defined it. The risk analysis of the Al Act – it is distorted. It becomes a danger in itself when circumvented by those who call for the security state.

The resulting risk is the legalization of the unacceptable.

High Risk

An audio recording of the preface to Miranda Fricker's book, Epistemic Injustice: Power and the Ethics of Knowing. These recordings were made as part of just reading, a reading grxup inviting people working within or in relation to institutions of teaching, learning and research to come together to consider larger realities of knowing through the frame of injustice. 

The aim of just reading is to make room for people to listen, speak, make and be together, creatively and thoughtfully, through acts of reading. The goal is to generate a convivial, inter-institutional culture of imagination and honesty about the lived experiences of injustice in the context of knowledge making and reproduction today. 

just reading takes philosopher Miranda Fricker’s book Epistemic Injustice: Power and the Ethics of Knowing as a starting point for engaging creatively with images and imaginaries of knowledge and injustice.

This is an audio registration of Flavia Dzodan’s inaugural lecture on November 26th, 2024 at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Director Ruby Hoette gives an introduction. 

The lecture "Amorino Latente/ Latent Cupid” revolves around the translation of art and its emotional impact through algorithmic and computational processes. Drawing from Caravaggio’s Amorino Dormiente (Sleeping Cupid in English), the lecture explores how the diminutive form of "Amorino" conveys an intimate and emotional depth that is lost in its translation to "Cupid"—a generalized and commercialized figure. What is lost in translation then, operates as a mirror of the broader issue of how algorithmic systems flatten complex, affect-laden works into simplified, consumable data points.
